Slightly predictable for a reader without making the characters seem obtuse

The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig

May 26, 2026 by Jen K 2 Comments

While I liked the author’s previous duology, The Shepherd King, I didn’t love it. It was one of those where I quite enjoyed the magic system and the plotting but thought the characters needed a little bit more, and that they were missing some fairly obvious clues. I really enjoyed The Knight and the … [Read more]

Strange Buildings by Uketsu

Strange Buildings by Uketsu

May 26, 2026 by Classic Leave a Comment

Trigger warning: Not shown, but told about child rape. This took me weeks to get through. Unlike the other books, I did not fly through this. This ended up being so convoluted and just not enjoyable even after the reveals. I think that Uketsu focusing on several buildings/stories in this one, … [Read more]

“Men will literally go on a quest to find a dragon than talk about their feelings”

Bromantasy by Máire Roche

May 26, 2026 by Malin Leave a Comment

Thanks to G.B Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for this ARC. My opinions are my own. This book is out on May 26th. Juniper O'Reilly shares a house with his totally platonic best friend, Mo Elthorn, and they run a farm together. Juniper has a tendency to get into bar brawls, while Mo holds him back and … [Read more]

A Slight Disappointment and a Solid Continuation

Startup Hell by Caitlin Rozakis

The Brides of High Hill by Nghi Vo

May 26, 2026 by Tracy Leave a Comment

Startup Hell This was a fun urban romantasy that satirizes office culture. Main character Morgan is working for Zabloom, a company whose CEO keeps changing what their product is. When her boss dies while summoning demon Lucareoth (Luke) to make a soul-exchange Deal, Lucareoth ends up freed from … [Read more]

Pirate Queens: The Lives of Anne Bonny and Mary Read by Rebecca Alexandra Simon

May 26, 2026 by Fiat.Luxury 2 Comments

Let me start this off with a little taste from Amazon' summary of this book: "Between August and October 1720, two female pirates named Anne Bonny and Mary Read terrorized the Caribbean in and around Jamaica. Despite their short career, they became two of the most notorious pirates during the height … [Read more]

Probably should not have read this on a diving trip, but still glad I read it.

Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson

May 25, 2026 by Fiat.Luxury Leave a Comment

The second of my non-fiction journey of 2026. This is an engrossing true story of a group of divers who discovered and identified a lost Nazi submarine of the coast of New Jersey in 1991. The story starts by setting the scene - to be a wreck diver (!) in 1980s (!) New Jersey (!) took a special kind … [Read more]
