Frostbite: A Graphic Novel by Ian Boothby and Pia Guerra

by Leave a Comment

Frostbite: A Graphic Novel by Ian Boothby and Pia Guerra is the type of graphic novel that I would have read as a teen. If I had read graphic novels. So, therefore, I should say, if it was a novel, it would have been up my alley. It might surprise you I did read these types of books as a teen as I have never liked horror. However, as an adult I realized that I can do horror if there is a thriller element and […]

Final down the rabbit hole with Laura Perez

Ocultos by Laura Pérez and translator Andrea Rosenberg

Ocultos by Laura Pérez and translator Andrea Rosenberg Each book that I have read by Perez has been stranger than the one before. Contradictions. Too many wordless pages. Too much text. Not enough details to the illustrations and, yes, not enough. The colors are both the perfect touch and the most distracting piece of the work. Each of the three titles are perfect with their similarities, yet they are so different at the same time. How can it be the same author? This author and […]

It’s been four months since the night of gore, chaos, and the failed demonic summoning…but wait! There is more!

The Night Eaters V02 Her Little Reapers. by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda

Ages ago I read The Night Eaters #1: She Eats the Night by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. The horror books of horror graphic novels. I mean, EEEEWWW OMG what was I thinking? Blood, gore, houses eating people…. Yet, Yup. I (mostly) liked it. Enough to say: I guess I’ll try volume two, The Night Eaters: Her Little Reapers. But I didn’t get to it for several years actually. So many in fact, I forgot what the ham-hocks was going on. Which is partly okay […]

Spirited V04: Fangs for the Memories by Liv Livingston and Glass House Graphics

by Leave a Comment

A few years ago, Spirited V01 Day of the Living came out. Then Volume 2: Go, Ghoul, Go!, Volume 3: Greenhouse of Horror and then Spirited V04: Fangs for the Memories all by Liv Livingston and Glass House Graphics (illustrator). Which is what I am writing about today. The others, Volume 5: Howl at the Moon came out last year, with Volume 6: It Came from the Deep out in early 2026, and still not read. Yet. And while you do need to read at […]

Festival of Shadows: A Japanese Ghost Story by Atelier Sentô, Cécile Brun and Oliver Pichard

by Leave a Comment

When I read Festival of Shadows: A Japanese Ghost Story by Atelier Sentô, Cécile Brun and Oliver Pichard, I had two feelings about it. The first was that it was horrible. The second was that it was amazing.  These conflicting feelings are both real. This book is a book that I felt as much as I read. And all the feels I was having, got mixed and mashed together and made me not have a happy tummy. Yet, I can’t get over how good things […]

Supernatural friendship

Frank the Monster by Mats Strandberg and Sofia Falkenhem

Maud and the Very Eventful Week (The Adventures of Maud the Vampire) by Lisa Anchin

Short books are the reader’s friend. You get to read and not take a long time doing it. You accomplish something. And honestly, sometimes those “little wins” mean a whole lot. That’s one reason why I like children’s books. Not only are they fun, neat and good stories, they can be ways to entertain yourself when you don’t have a lot of time to spend on something longer. Recently, I needed some quick reads to clear the mind of the serious books I was reading […]
