For one reason or another, I did not finish these

Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

March 12, 2023 by ingres77 Leave a Comment

Fingerprints of the Gods (1 star) I’ve always been fascinated by the world of constructed reality, whether it be conspiracy theory or pseduoscience or just general disinformation and propaganda. Fascinated in a “I hate this so much but can’t disengage because I must punish myself for some inexplicable reason” kind of way. When I was in college, I spent an embarrassingly large amount of my free time arguing with young earth creationists on the internet. It so interested me that I wrote my thesis on […]

My first DNF of the year

A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes

February 26, 2023 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

I love mythology. I am the stereotypical gay boy who grew up devouring every piece of mythology I could get my hands on as a kid. So when I heard about a retelling of the Trojan War from the point of view of the women involved, I was amped! But, dear reader, I made it 40% and then decided that I could not do any more. My first DNF of the year. The structure of the book is that the muse of poetry is helping […]

The Cartographers (DNF)

The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd

January 17, 2023 by Owlizabeth Leave a Comment

I come from the review school of “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” and so generally avoid sharing my did not finish (DNFs) books. I’m a mood reader! Taste is subjective! Don’t yuck someone else’s yum! I’ve set books aside thinking I hate them and picked them up months later and fallen absolutely in love! So, yeah, this is very strange and uncomfortable for me, but this book made me so angry I have to share. Basic synopsis: […]

This is a good little mystery that I couldn’t get into

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

October 12, 2022 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

BINGO – Bodies (as in, dead ones) The Thursday Murder Club is a group of amateur-detective pensioners who all live at Cooper’s Chase retirement community. The Club consists of Ibrahim, Ron, Elizabeth, and newcomer Joyce. Their usually sleepy community is suddenly rocketed to the forefront of police attention when a handful of individuals connected to the community are murdered. The Thursday Murder Club is also on the case. They are using a lifetime of experience and ample time to dig up clues, identify suspects, and […]

This review is coming to you from a real life dystopia

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings

August 23, 2022 by Emmalita 4 Comments

I am writing to you from the inside of an actual, non-fiction dystopia. The spoilers start now. I never liked the evil ex trope, and I particularly disliked the evil ex had an abortion variation. I used to come across it frequently in the late 1980s – 1990s. I haven’t seen much of it recently and I’m not at all happy about coming across it in Mazey Edding’s Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake. The book isn’t explicitly anti-abortion, and I have no idea which side Eddings […]

You learn something new everyday

Sweet Berries by CM Nascosta

June 8, 2022 by katie71483 12 Comments

Several months ago, I read a monster romance by C.M. Nascosta and could not get over by how fantastic it was. That book was Morning Glory Milking Farm, and it is a gem. (You can find that review here, if you’re interested.) I was greatly excited to hear that they have a new book coming out, Sweet Berries. I enjoyed MGMF so much that I went ahead and pre-ordered Berries on my Kindle without even reading the blurb – Nascosta had shot to the top […]
