City of Dragons: Volume Three of the Rain Wilds Chronicles by Robin Hobb

by Leave a Comment

Cbr18bingo steal In this third volume of The Rain Wilds Chronicles, a variety of forces working against the dragons and their survival come to the fore. Some of those forces are natural but the most deadly threats are human in nature: politics, economics, greed, and desperation.  In City of Dragons, the party of dragons, their keepers and the crew of the liveship barge Tarman have arrived at Kelsingra, the fabled Elderling city, but their problems are far from over and their future is uncertain. The […]

This would have been better as a YA fantasy

Dominion by Jean Kwok

CBR18 Bingo: 26 (published this year. This month, in fact) Thank you to G.P. Putnam’s Sons and NetGalley for this ARC. My opinions are my own. This book is on sale now. Rubi is an azure, a group of displaced and badly treated refugees. In this fantasy world, there are four dominions, each with its own specialities. There is the Azure Dragon dominion, which can control plants and all things growing, and many of their people can shapeshift into animals; the Scarlet Phoenix dominion, which […]

Justice for Wrongs Done

Soul Machine by Jordana Globerman

by Leave a Comment

There are bumps in the actual story arc of Soul Machine by Jordana Globerman. It feels as if this was book two or there was some sort of introduction in a previous book. We are never truly told what The Soul is (outside of assuming it is one’s “spiritual” soul), what the machine our cast of character use actually does, who are the customers of the company (outside of people, but why do they need them is not explained) and the characters, especially their backgrounds, […]

Success is the goal; teamwork is the game

Strikers: A Graphic Novel by Kiel Phegley and Jacques Khouri

With the Heated Rivalry craze, hockey romance books are getting a push. However, hockey has always been there. Maybe not as a romance, but it has been there. And one of those books was Strikers: A Graphic Novel by Kiel Phegley and Jacques Khouri (illustrator). Published back in 2023, this graphic novel is a fun story about friendship and teamwork. There is no romance, unless you want to say there is a bromance between the team as a whole. They are the worst team in […]

And you can read this book and that book and this other one….

Millie Fleur's Pumpkin Problem by Christy Mandin

Millie Feur’s Worst Day Ever by Christy Mandin

My reading experiences have allowed me to find several solo reads and books in series that just really grab me and I get terribly excited over. One series that are more companions than true sequels are the Millie Fleur books by Christy Mandin. Having read the first two, Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden and Millie Fleur Saves the Night I figured that reading the third, Millie Fleur’s Pumpkin Problem would be a no-brainer read.  Thankfully, considering how spooky Millie can be, there were no brains (in a […]

Little Doodles for Big Feeling by Liz Karcewski.

If you are looking for a whimsical, meditative, sweet, sentimental, quirky hostess gift with abstract realism for images that are boldly bright, minimalist  and a few black and white illustrations tossed in for fun, you need Little Doodles for Big Feelings by Liz Karcewski. I read this book (I am assuming it is a smaller size, like books you find at the checkout counter of a bookstore) as a reader copy online. It is due later in October 2026 so it is perfect for the […]
