My reading experiences have allowed me to find several solo reads and books in series that just really grab me and I get terribly excited over. One series that are more companions than true sequels are the Millie Fleur books by Christy Mandin. Having read the first two, Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden and Millie Fleur Saves the Night I figured that reading the third, Millie Fleur’s Pumpkin Problem would be a no-brainer read.
Thankfully, considering how spooky Millie can be, there were no brains (in a good way) but there were a lot of pumpkins. Lots and lots and lots of pumpkins. And I followed up that book with Millie Feur’s Worst Day Ever. There also were no brains, but slime this time around. Lots and lots of slime.
In the idea of the other books, Millie learns things about how she is different, but that’s okay and how to share that love with her neighbors and the town folks figure out a few things, too, like how Autumn has its own beauty and working together gets the problem solved in some creative ways. And while Millie is usually the one to solve the issues, this time she learns to ask for help as well. Both books are great solo and to be read in a group (along with the other books in the series).
The only issue with me reading books via an online reader copy is that a lot of times that means the book is not due for a while yet (Pumpkins thankfuly came out in July 2026 but that bad day will not be out until October 2026) so unless you too can find a reader copy, you have to wait for publication. Which is not a bad thing, as Mandin is worth the wait and you can always read the others again.
