Hollywood intrigue, flipping houses, graphic novels, and romance!

Tribute by Nora Roberts

August 21, 2020 by Carriejay Leave a Comment

Bingo Square: Red Cilla McGowan is the granddaughter of Janet Hardy, a legendary actress who died from an overdose – suspected suicide – before Cilla was born. A former child star, Cilla is sick of Hollywood and all it has to offer. She manages to persuade her mother (who is still stuck in the Hollywood machine) to sell her Hardy’s old farmhouse so she can do it up, and maybe find herself a home in the process. While gutting the property, Cilla meets her neighbour, […]

Revisiting a Book I Thought was Fine the First Time. Still Fine.

Angels Fall by Nora Roberts

March 29, 2020 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Scribd does this thing where after you’ve listened to a couple of book, they make all the other books you want to listen to “unavailable” until the day after your subscription renews. It’s annoying. Anyway, after listening to the Murderbot Diaries, all the scifi I planned to listen to was unavailble, but a couple of Nora Roberts’ books were available. Knowing that I would only be able to listen to one, I flipped a quarter and picked Angels Fall. I read this one years ago […]

Under Currents: A Novel by Nora Roberts

February 6, 2020 by Lynn 1 Comment

First review of the year! I started out so strong last year, and then petered out in February. (February is the longest month of the year, I swear.) So here’s hoping I can keep up this year! Somehow I missed this stand alone Roberts, although I just looked it up and it only came out last summer, so I’m not sure how my library has literally 50 e-copies available. (And here’s where I can go down the rabbit hole of publishing and libraries and e-books and […]

Ringing in the New Year

Festive in Death by J. D. Robb

January 1, 2020 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

For a large chunk of 2019, I re-read J. D. Robb’s* entire In Death series. It’s a futuristic mystery series set about 40 years in the future. As of January 1, 2020, there are 49 novel length installments and several shorter novellas. Book 50 releases in February. This review features the cover art for book 39, Festive in Death, since it’s holiday themed. (Don’t worry – I’m not going to try and claim the entire series and hit my Cannonball on the very first day!) […]

Whole Series is a Letdown

Sea Swept by Nora Roberts

Rising Tides by Nora Roberts

Inner Harbor by Nora Roberts

Chesapeake Blue by Nora Roberts

November 12, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Sea Swept (3 stars) So I lost my mind a little bit this weekend and read all four books in the series which is probably going to color my reviews cause I know what is coming. This book really is around 2 stars, but I rounded it up to 3 based on books #3 and #4 which were pretty terrible. The strongest book in the series is book #2 honestly. Each of the books in this series deals with a Quinn brother. This book really […]

Wonderful Romantic Suspense Offering by Roberts

Under Currents by Nora Roberts

November 12, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Some of Nora Robert’s romantic suspense books are hit or miss with me. Either I think the murder/suspense piece takes up too much of the book leaving the romance wanting, or the romance is great, but the actual murder/suspense feels superfluous with the plot. With “Under Currents” Roberts does a great job of building up the romance between the two leads and also making the overall plot (how abuse shapes and changes many people) worked well together. I loved the characters of Zane and Darby […]
