Fake it Till You Bake It

Fake It Till You Bake It by Jamie Wesley

May 24, 2022 by Classic 3 Comments

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Did Not Finish-30 percent. I cannot read any more fake relationship romances. I am tired of them. It feels like lately all I am reading is fake relationship which turns to lovers. I thought the premise of the book was good (football star running a cupcake bakery meets a social media “star”) but I really didn’t like Jada and thought her and Donovan didn’t work. I initially was […]

Last Night at the Telegraph Club

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo

May 23, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

This took a while for me to get going. Some parts of it dragged out a bit too much. I also think the breaking up of chapter/sections by dates and following certain characters sometimes got a little confusing. That said, I really enjoyed this and though some of Lily’s family background didn’t add much to the story, IMHO, it didn’t hurt things. “Last Night at the Telegraph Club” follows 17 year old Lily who starts to explore her sexuality in 1950s San Francisco. I really […]

One of the Girls

One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke

May 16, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review.  I ended up giving this one 4.5 stars and rounding it up to 5 stars. The only reason why I didn’t think it was a 5 star favorite read for me was that 1) I doubt I would re-read this again and 2) the omnipotent narrator in between chapters started to grate towards the end. I just wanted to find out what happened or was going to end. […]

Overboard

Overboard by Sara Paretsky

May 15, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

A great installment in the V.I. Warshawski series. The only reason why I didn’t give this 5 stars is that the technology angle flew over my head (pun intended) like each time I read about it. I still don’t understand it, and just shrugged and decided to enjoy the book. “Overboard” follows V.I. as she is dealing with the impact of COVID-19 on her, her business, and the city of Chicago. V.I. is running her dogs when one of them gets away from her and […]

The Book of Cold Cases

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

May 15, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I think the only book of Simone St. James I have really enjoyed has been The Sun Down Motel, and even that fell apart for me towards the end. I think the supernatural aspects of this book just actually didn’t work in this one one. The main character, Shea, was too self righteous for me and I got really tired of her by the end of the book. “The Book of Cold Cases” follows receptionist, Shea Collins. Shea is just going through the motions of […]

They Drown Our Daughters

They Drown Our Daughters by Katrina Monroe

May 15, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review.  Well this was a solid Gothic/horror read. The main reason why I couldn’t give it more than 3 stars though is the last 1/3 of the book dragged, didn’t make a lot of sense, and then I think the ending may tick off some readers. No spoilers, but was very surprised that Katrina Monroe went there. I also got a little lost in the chronology along the way. […]
