Reading This During the Holidays Was Probably a Mistake

We Are Monsters by Brian Kirk

December 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Eh. I tried to get into this. I gave up halfway through and just grudgingly finished this thing over a period of like four weeks. Bah. It had a great premise, it just got boring to me halfway through. And then I kept finding other books to read instead. Maybe if I hadn’t started King’s “The Institute” (nope still not done) and seen some similar themes here, it […]

Still the Best Reveal…

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

December 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Updated: December 2019.  This book still is for me the best murder mystery I have read. Christie totally deserves all of the accolades she got for this book. I loved every minute of it and the set-up. I still gasped when we have our Poirot deducing who killed Roger Ackroyd.  I started reading Agatha Christie about a year or so ago. I had only read three of her Miss Marple novels and this was my first Hercule Poirot novel. I was once again pleasantly surprised […]

Twenties Girl

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

December 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Updated: December 2019: So, I am a dumb ass. I thought I liked this book when I first read it. Since I was in a reading slump I grabbed this and a few other books to re-read during Christmas Day. Ugh. This is still goofy and irritating for all of the reasons I said below. However, having wine and cheese while reading this made the book much more palatable.    I have always been fascinated by the 20s. You had the so-called Jazz Age, women fighting […]

Surrender

Surrender by Amanda Quick

December 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This is definitely a re-read. I just never got around to posting a review for this book eons ago. Not much to say except I loved the heroine in this one (Victoria) and hero (Lucas). The two of them being thrown together due to Lucas needing an heiress and Victoria wanting adventure sets them on a fun collision course. Of course based on the time period there are a few times you want Lucas to get kicked hard someplace. He talks about his husbandly rights […]

Broken Harbor

Broken Harbor by Tana French

December 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Updated: December 2019: Nothing more to add except this was a great read! I just re-read since I finished up French’s “The Witch Elm” and that book had me missing the Dublin Murder Squad. This book really does knock you in the teeth with a great ending I did not see coming. What a great installment in the Dublin Murder Squad. I didn’t like Scorcher in the last book, but loved him here. It makes you sad that he was thinking of a long time partner […]
