A pop culture junkie, Katie has an addiction to tragically bad romance novels. In addition, Katie is resolute in her belief that Evans is #BestChris and doesn't understand why people live where it snows. That shit is terrifying.

Payback in Death by J. D. Robb

September 9, 2023 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

Payback in Death is J. D. Robb’s 57th installment in her bestselling In Death series, and it shows. That is a lot of time to spend with character development and world building. This book is filled with the nods to earlier cases, supporting characters, and events both everyday and momentous that die hard fans keep going back. At this point, Lt. Eve Dallas of the New York Police and Security Department has been married to the charming former thief turned billionaire, Roarke for three years. […]

Love Triumphant and a bit with a dog

The Anti-Hero by Sara Cate

July 17, 2023 by katie71483 2 Comments

Okay, so, some of you may remember that I reviewed Purity by Skyler Mason several months ago and that I was… not impressed. Purity was supposed to be spicy romance about someone who was recovering from growing up in purity culture. It wasn’t particularly romantic or sexy or spicy or even a good deconstruction* (see definition below) journey.    Today, I stumbled upon The Anti-Hero by Sara Cate. It is everything that Purity’s author wanted that book to be, but on steroids. It is filled […]

Don’t go breaking my heart…

King by SJ TILLY

July 12, 2023 by katie71483 5 Comments

King by SJ Tilly is a dark Mafia romance that I read on Kindle Unlimited because it kept pushing it on me as a selection I’d like to read. I enjoyed King for the most part, but it’s kind of weird. It’s got grumpy sunshine vibes, insta love bordering on obsession, a great dog, ThunderSex™, and a massive case of what I can only describe as Stockholm Syndrome. The protagonists meet with a pretty original, if highly unlikely meet cute. Savannah is on a third […]

Ask me about my weiner…

Pay-Per-Heart by Grace McGinty

June 26, 2023 by katie71483 1 Comment

Pay-Per-Heart by Grace McGinty is a delightful little bon bon of a Why Choose? romance about a graphic designer, porn stars, and the sausage food truck owner who loves them. Does that sound like there are some built in jokes and finger scorching sex scenes? If you answered yes, you are today’s grand prize winner! There is also an adorable meet cute involving a gender fluid name, an ad for an unorthodox employment opportunity, & and a scam that strongly brings to mind the Justin […]

Sometimes things should be left in the past

Atlantis Found by Clive Cussler

Raise the Titanic by Clive Cussler

April 16, 2023 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

Why can’t I learn this lesson? Some books shouldn’t be re-read if you want to continue to remember them fondly. But maybe it’s better to have ripped the band-aid off so you don’t recommend them and regret it later? When I was in middle school, I discovered the books of Clive Cussler. They read like a cross between Robert Ludlum and Indiana Jones. A dashing hero, his best friend, obscure bits of history woven into a densely plotted adventure, classic cars, and while they’re all […]

Pucking Around by Emily Rath

April 10, 2023 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

Kindle Unlimited REALLY wanted to make sure I didn’t miss Emily Rath’s Pucking Around. I’m so glad it was insistent. Pucking Around is a super spicy why choose hockey romance that is probably 150 pages too long but you don’t care because you like the characters that much and the spice is finger scorching. Rachel Price is the daughter of rock and roll royalty and has worked hard to leave all that entails in her rearview. She is a medical resident that specializes in a holistic approach to physical […]
