Where do I start with this delightful little bon bon of a book? Oh, wait. The freaking title. Obviously. Not gonna lie, after a previous positive experience with a book by Roxie Ray, when I saw I Accidently Joined a Wolf Shifter Group Chat pop up on the new Kindle+ membership, I immediately signed into my Kindle to borrow it. Because why wouldn’t you want to know *that* whole story???
Sloane, our female main character, has been lonely on a deep level for a very long time. Her parents were always more interested in what she could achieve than if she was happy while she was pursuing the achievement. They are also apparently oblivious by choice to the unnecessarily hard start in life that they have put her through. Sloan works from home as a freelance graphic designer. Pretty much the only people she regularly interacts with are her clients and her parents.
Hudson, our male main character, is the son and heir apparent of the alpha of a local wolf shifter family/pack. When I tell you that man never stops working to help others in his pack, whether it’s rescuing a kid from a tree, hunting down the coolers of ice at a party that have mysteriously disappeared, or showing up with jumper cables when your car won’t start, Hudson is there to support you. He doesn’t resent it – he loves his pack very much – but there are days when he just feels overwhelmed.
Then one day Hudson’s grandmother (who reminds me very much of Grandma Mazur from the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich) accidentally adds Sloane to the Pack group chat. As I’m sure you grasp from the start, Sloane is very confused by this, but quickly grows addicted to watching the alerts and posts come across her phone. Eventually they realize she is there, but assume that she is a long-lost cousin of the pack that is also named Sloane.
So, she stops lurking and begins fully participating in the chat, setting up side chats with Hudson and with a new bestie, Patty. She gradually realizes that these people are not all human. To test her theory, she invites them to have a “who can shift the fastest” contest in the group chat. Chaos ensues as literally everyone in the pack is trying to prove to Cousin Sloane that they are, in fact, the fastest to shift.
Y’all that’s just the first 50 pages or so. When I tell you that I laughed out loud at some of the shenanigans… I’m not going to share any more of the story. I’d really rather you read it for yourself. Is it the most amazing thing I’ve ever read? No, of course not, but I do think it would be worth your time. Give it a try if you need a lighthearted distraction.
