National Library Week in the US runs April 19-26 and the theme is Find Your Joy. At Cannonball Read, we love libraries of all kinds. Without libraries, many of us would have access to fewer books and resources. This year alone I’ve checked out crafting books, cookbooks, and a book about Malcolm X’s legacy. I’ve listened to 135 hours of audiobooks, gone to crafting workshops, and used their meeting rooms for community building. While we love our libraries, they are under threat in the US. […]
“How is a brussels sprout concentrated?” “Well, it’s basically a really intense cabbage.”
While You Were Seething by Charlotte Stein
This is going to be a challenging review to write because the emotional payoff in the end is the part I want to write about. I loved it so much. Reading While You Were Seething is like watching a volcano. You see the pressure growing, the little bursts where Daisy and Caleb reveal more of their interiors to each other. And then at 90% I’m sobbing because the cathartic eruption has happened and Charlotte Stein has given Daisy the words to say how I feel […]
Thee Most Adorable YA Sapphic Summer Romance
Summer Official by Rebekah Weatherspoon
I have high expectations for a book written by Rebekah Weatherspoon. Summer Official exceeded them and now I know my expectations weren’t high enough. I fell in love with Saylor and Heaven quickly and enjoyed reading about their developing friendship and romance. This is a lovely slow-burn, introvert/extrovert, acquaintances to lovers romance. I want to talk about cake in a minute. The book starts with Saylor finding out her mother, a momfluencer, has posted a video crying with joy that Saylor has come out to […]
He was cloaked in shadows, leaning against the wall, holding a beer by the neck. Her skin tingled.
Enemies to Lovers by Alisha Rai
Sometimes the thing that speaks to me is so goofily specific I’m almost embarassed to admit what it is. I’m trying to be better about embracing my inner cringe, but also, I don’t think I’m wrong that this moment was the turning point. Sajal and Krish are on the run from one criminal organization and trying to find the head of another in Alisha Rai’s Enemies to Lovers. The sign that they are no longer enemies- she buys him a salad. She buys him a […]
A lovely Marriage in Trouble romance
No Matter What by Cara Bastone
I’ve always enjoyed Cara Bastone’s books (except one that I dnf’d), but last year’s Promise Me Sunshine was a tour de force of an emotional, slow burn romance. No Matter What, also explores grief through a marriage in trouble romance and will also rip your heart out and put it back together. I loved it. The opening few pages are a masterpiece. Roz invites the reader into the story when she finds a lease for a new apartment pinned to the kitchen counter by a […]
Lesbian Space Heist 2 – 2 Lesbian 2 Heist
The Obake Code by Makana Yamamoto
Last year, Hammajang Luck was one of my favorite reads, so I was delighted when I saw that there was a book 2 and it was out now and the audio was available through my library. The audiobook becoming available in time for the 2026 Trans Rights Readathon felt like kismet. The Obake Code is largely a standalone, though I do think everyone should read Hammajang Luck because it is excellent. Jolene Kim did a lot as narrator. She had different voices for Malia’s inside thoughts, […]
