Christmas romance bon bons

The Twelve Loves of Christmas by Alexandria Bellefleur; Elise Bryant; Olivia Dade; Alexis Daria; Sarah Hogle; Zakiya N. Jamal; Rebecca Jenshak; Jessica Joyce; Susan Lee; Joss Richard; M. A. Wardell; Rebekah Weatherspoon

I do love an anthology of short stories, so I grabbed The Twelve Loves of Christmas, as soon as I saw it on NetGalley. In addition to being a collection of short stories, it has stories by three of my favorite authors – Olivia Dade, Alexis Daria, and Rebekah Weatherspoon. There are also stories by some authors I have been wanting to read, like Elise Bryant and Sarah Hogle. In Alexis Daria’s “Decking His Halls,” Noelia terrorizes her brother’s best friend, and her temporary roommate, […]

Shut up, Brenner! (Sob!)

Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher

The Wonder Engine by T. Kingfisher

by 2 Comments

Did I have time to binge listen to The Clocktaur Wars series? No. Did I do it anyway? Yep. I read Daggerbound and then I realized that I needed to refresh myself on Learned Edmund’s origin story. I had listened to Clockwork Boys and The Wonder Engine a couple of years ago while I was suffering from a bug. The combination of T. Kingfisher’s story and Khristine Hvam’s narration make a great distraction, but I can’t say the I was paying enough attention to retain […]

Kansas City, MO is actually a great setting for a swoony mm fake dating romance

Isn’t He Romantic by Adib Khorram

by Leave a Comment

For a couple of years, Helena Greer has been telling anyone who will listen that we should read Adib Khorram. I knew she was right. It just took a bit for one of his arcs to get into my hands. Isn’t He Romantic is the third in his Love on the Vine series, and while I’m looking forward to reading the first two books when I have a chance, it’s enough of a stand alone that I didn’t feel like I was missing information. I really enjoyed […]

Sparkling Revenge Romance

Revenge of the Sunshine by Jackie Lau

by Leave a Comment

I remember the moment I realized some men like it when a woman is mean to them. Zoe, the sunshine in Jackie Lau’s Revenge of the Sunshine, is a little bit mean. Bennett Chung secretly likes it that Zoe bullies him into whimsey. He doesn’t admit that he likes it. You have to pay attention to what he does, not what he says (or thinks). Zoe could have been meaner to Bennett’s younger brother, her ex-boyfriend, and her former best friend after she caught them […]

A Gory Zombie Apocalypse Road Trip Romance

Doomsdate by Laura Piper Lee

by 2 Comments

I loved Laura Piper Lee’s Pot Shot. I highly encourage you to read it. It’s still on my list for top five reads of 2026. My feelings about Doomsdate are more mixed, but if you are looking for a good mix of horror and romance, it does what it says on the tin. Maisie was raised isolated by her mother, an end of the world prepper whose schizophrenia caused her to live in extreme paranoia. Maisie has spent many years unlearning the fears her mother […]

Silvia Moreno-Garcia does noir as well as you think she would – brilliantly

The Intrigue by Silvia Moreno Garcia

Ulises Linares (not his real name) is a conman who engages in lonely hearts and romance cons. At almost 30, and after the death of his father, he’s feeling a pressure to pull a con that will give him some stability. He decides to pursue Perla Inclan, a woman whose family once owned a reasonably successful coffee company in Puerco Ahogado (which means “drowned pig”), in the mountains of Veracruz. But Perla is no easy mark. And her niece, Inés, clocks him pretty quickly. The […]
