“Heroism’s just doing more than you want to do or think you can.” (CBR11 Bingo)

Northern Lights by Nora Roberts

August 13, 2019 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I’m glad this Bingo Square is Summer Read, not Beach Read because I have a very peculiar definition of what I read at the beach and it is not vacation “light reading”! Northern Lights might not count for some (there are a few murders and a male protagonist fighting through depression) but a Nora Roberts romance will always be a Summer Read for me. I’ve read Northern Lights before, but its been a long time. In Northern Lights we follow Nate Burke as he moves […]

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Nora Roberts-fied

Year One by Nora Roberts

Of Blood and Bone by Nora Roberts

June 30, 2019 by denesteak 2 Comments

CBR11 #2: Year One by Nora Roberts My first Nora Roberts! The two books were a gift from my friend who’s a huge Nora Roberts fan, and she thought Year One could be a good entry point because I’m a real sucker for dystopia fiction. It starts out with a family vacation in Scotland, when a peasant is shot and falls right in the middle of a stone circle, and its blood seeps into the frosted ground. What appears to be a regular hunting expedition turns deadly […]

Most of the Book Focused on Suspense Not the Romance

The Obsession by Nora Roberts

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Not too much to say here. Roberts focuses mostly on the suspense aspect of this book and it works much better. The main reason why I gave it three stars is that I think that it would have been smart to include the POV of Naomi’s brother as well. Thank goodness though he doesn’t enter into a romance in this one. I loved how they both changed based on what happened with their parents and the paths they took. Other than that the book felt […]

Not That Engrossing, Story Loses Itself Halfway Through

Sanctuary by Nora Roberts

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well “Sanctuary” was not that interesting in the end. I think this is one of Robert’s earlier works in romantic suspense. We have three siblings (of course) and most of the book is following the as they act brand new about love and relationships. “Sanctuary” mostly hones in on one of the three siblings, Jo Ellen, though is a successful photographer who returns to her home after getting sent a bunch of threatening photos. One of the photos is of her mother who her family […]

When You’re Rooting for the Grandmother and Hero to Get Together Something Has Gone Wrong…

Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts

March 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Trigger warning: mass shooting depicted. This was such a weird romantic suspense book. Very little romance was to be seen/read about in this case. I ended up not really caring at all for the heroine (Simone) and fell in love with the hero (Reed) and thought that it made better sense for Reed to get together with the grandmother (Cici) in this one. I thought there wasn’t much character development outside of Reed and his partner and friend Essie. Following the serial killer or spree killer […]

More Witchy Irish Stereotypes then you can shake a stick at (Bingo #3)

September 21, 2018 by melanir Leave a Comment

Nora Roberts was born in Silver Spring, MD and currently lives up in the northwestern part of the state. And so this book, Dark Witch, fills the Home Something Home slot on my bingo card. I am not impressed. I mean, kissing books are not my favorite genre and unfortunately this one follows the plot beats with drumming regularity. I think if you’re fond of a particular genre, then this type of drumming to the story beats will appeal to you. I know that I […]
