Essentially, Batman in Love

August 9, 2016 by Orleanas 1 Comment

Nora Roberts’ Night Shadow is a Batman inspired romance novel: There’s a seemingly Playboy millionaire, his butler, a backstory, a secret cave, sinister criminals, and ruthless politicians who try to overtake the city. Deborah is the new, young, gorgeous, and successful attorney taking the city and its gossip pages by storm. Conflict arises when her ideals of law, order, and justice conflict with those of the man she’s falling for. How do they reconcile those differences? Read the full review.

What’s Like Hot Whiskey?

August 9, 2016 by Orleanas Leave a Comment

A voice–hot and potent–is apparently like hot whiskey, as described in Night Shift, book 1 of Nora Roberts’ Night Tales Series. Originally published in the early 1990’s, the first two books of the series have been repackaged in a two-for-one special entitled, Exposed (2016). Read the full review.

Do Not Talk to the Police Without Your Attorney Present

March 7, 2016 by Emmalita 8 Comments

I know You People are too smart to take legal advice from a popular but formulaic writer of romantic suspense novels. I do worry though, that there are people out there who would. So I’m going to get right to the point. Do not talk to the police without your attorney present. Do not let them in your house without a search warrant. Do not threaten the police. Do not take the law into your own hands. Do not punch your mortal enemy in front […]

It’s Christmas time, so of course I’m reading about murder

December 28, 2015 by NTE 2 Comments

I’m a couple years behind on this series, even though it’s one of my all-time favorites, but that’s mostly because I insist on re-reading before I get around to new ones, and who has time for all that?  These books are number 46, 47 and 53, if you trust the In Death Wiki, and count all the short stories, which I certainly do, and I just did a re-read last year, and I didn’t have time for one this year.  Plus, I prefer my books […]

If she wasn’t such a prolific writer, this book would suggest that Nora Roberts had a second career as an interior decorator

3.5 stars for the story, 0.5 stars for the excellent narration Shelby Foxworth is only 24 when her husband dies in a boating accident, leaving her a widow with a three-year-old daughter. Shortly after her husband’s death, she discovers that the man who swept her off her feet and who she believed was rich and successful, was in fact a swindler and a con man, leaving her with mountains of debt. Going through his papers, she finds evidence not only that he cheated on her, […]

Couple of Comfort Reads

September 1, 2015 by NTE 1 Comment

Here, have a review about two recent (ish)  stand alones by the ever popular and uber-prolific Nora Roberts.  Of whom I am a huge, unashamed fan.  Her books are often comfort reads for me – I know somewhere, in the midst of whatever nonsense is flourishing, there will some sort of happy ending, and that’s reassuring in a way I can’t really explain.  Other readers complain about the formulaic nature of some of Roberts’ work (particularly when it comes to trilogies), but – for me, […]
