Filipino Food Sounds Goods

Make It Plant Based: Filipino by Ria Elciario-McKeown

March 28, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

It seems kind of rare to get a cookbook focused on a lesser well known cuisine that is not loaded with hard to find ingredients. Make It Plant Based: Filipino actually manages to be both vegan and ethnic without requiring too many unheard of ingredients, and also actually manages to make its cuisine pretty user friendly to someone (me) totally unfamiliar. Full disclosure: I haven’t actually tried anything out of here yet, but I will. There is a brief introduction that manages to not preach […]

The White Cat’s Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon’ King’s Lap by Aki, Kureha, Yamigo

March 28, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

This was a library impulse grab. The White Cat’s Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon’ King’s Lap (v.1) is as you might guess from the title one of the trendy isekai manga with a long-ish title.  It is also as you might guess total fluff, wish fulfillment for anyone who might have felt overshadowed or overlooked. IT’s basically a Cinderella tale of two childhood friends, one of whom (Ruri) never seems to get to enjoy things for herself thanks to the presence of her golden […]

The Oh She Glows Cookbook by Angela Liddon

March 27, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

I really feel like I’ve looked through The Oh She Glows Cookbook before, but I can’t find it in my review history. I know I have one of the follow-up books, which might be why this one feels so familiar, but I’m just not sure. It’s from 2014 so the other alternative is that most of the contents has been done similarly by someone later that I have seen. It bugs me a little not knowing. This is a perfectly serviceable vegan cookbook that’s got […]

The Art of Mixology: Mocktails by Parragon Books

March 27, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

I present a unicorn: a specialty cookbook that has barely any hard to find ingredients and not too many single use specialty items (as in, specialty thing to acquire, but only use tiny bit in one recipe). The Art of Mixology: Mocktails is also kind of on-trend, but that’s also probably why I saw it on sale at the bulls-eye store. Before getting to the recipes there is a review of bar-tending equipment, glassware, terms/techniques, and general ingredient types. If you know your cocktails, none […]

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

March 27, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I try to go to yoga two or three times a week. The instructor for early Wednesday runs an insurance/financial advising office outside of the studio, and is fond of bringing in the self-help/improvement kinds of things that can be made to work for both the business side of things as well as the yoga. This is how I first heard of The Four Agreements. I saw the book itself, and in need of retail therapy, I decided to see what the whole thing was […]

Picking up up righ where it left off

The Ancient Magus Bride vols. 19-21 by Kore Yamazaki

March 27, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I’ve enjoyed the Ancient Magus Bride manga for the most part; then it suddenly paused mid-arc. Turns out that the author was changing publishers for reasons I don’t know, which resulted in over a year-long gap between volumes. But now it seems like publishing is happening again. Volumes 19-21 finish the arc that was underway before the break and start the set up for the next one. The family tragedy behind Philomela’s connection to the mysterious evil grimoire turns out to have to do with […]
