You don’t want to be treated like family by THIS family

Cry Out Loud by Tara O’Connor

September 18, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Tara O’Connor has four authored and illustrated titles to her name, plus several others she is the illustrator of. Cry Out Loud is one of those titles she is the complete creator. I have read three of her works (the fourth is being searched for…). Each one is a little different from the others, yet they all have a similar tone. However, one of the interesting things is that I would say each book is for a different audience. Their memoir Roots, is for the […]

A Moody and Mysterious YA Graphic Novel That Also Somewhat Frustrated Me

Fly by Night by Tara O'Connor

February 5, 2022 by GentleRain Leave a Comment

I picked this up somewhat randomly at Barnes & Noble, who have happily broken out their YA graphic novels into their own section at the store I go to, so I don’t have to dig through the whole YA section anymore. It makes me really happy to be living through this renaissance of graphic novels, and I’m excited to see it continue expanding. Fly by Night is a good example of the interesting work that’s being done now, and it was an enjoyable read. Dee’s […]

I love sassy Irish lasses

Roots by Tara O'Connor

February 4, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Roots deals with the interesting concept of well, Roots: the roots that are our family’s history, finding our place to finally set them down, and dying our hair. This graphic novel is a sweet peek at Tara O’Connor after her divorce. Which of course, was not sweet, but even in the more somber moments, there is always a glimmer of hope. As the reader I had the feeling of reading her diary as Tara takes us through the journey of lost love and trying to […]

Cute in a not eat your face way

Fly by Night by Tara O’Connor.

December 16, 2021 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

Thanks to my holiday book exchange, I had a chance to pick up Fly by Night by Tara O’Connor.  I had started a sampler awhile back and thought it would be slightly on the slower side, but still it was a fascinating concept. Twin sisters, one who has gone missing, and spooky felt right.  And yes, it was not super-fast pace, but kept things moving. The idea of true supernature never came into play for those few pages, but it quickly does once you get […]
