Bonus books after my Cannonball! A short Margaret Atwood story

My Evil Mother by Margaret Atwood

November 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is apparently an Amazon Original Story, whatever that means? I knew that it was free and it was a short one, that’s for sure. I’ve read a bunch of Margaret Atwood’s books, so I thought I’d give this one a try, since it was only an hour long. I basically only read kindle books and audiobooks, so my books are measured in hours, not pages! Our main character is fifteen and growing up in the fifties with a mother who basically claims she’s a […]

Sweet but not sappy

The Yellow Ao Dai by Hanh Bui

September 9, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I was thinking that The Yellow Ao Dai was going to be super sappy. The cover is cute and sweet looking, and the main character is a young child. The subject felt as if it was going to be a “feel good tale.” And it is but all that, but it is more, too. It is a feel-good story, but there is some meat with those potatoes. We follow a young Vietnamese girl excited to share part of her culture with her class, but her […]

One MFing Superhero and a (swear) long review

M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, Volume 1 by Emilia Clarke and Marguerite Bennett

September 7, 2022 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I am glad that I did not realize who Emilia Clarke is before I read this book. If you have been under a rock (like I obviously have) she is an actress from Game of Thrones (at least I have heard of that). The why of that is I am a snob when it comes to celebrity books (not completely convinced of quality to be blunt). Even with a psychedelic cover that made me a bit stomach upset, I am glad I gave this graphic […]

The author might be hiding away in Donegal, but these books are not!

The Deepest Breath by Meg Grehan

The Space Between by Meg Grehan

August 8, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Meg Grehan came on my radar recently with Baby Teeth. I was intrigued for many reasons; I had read another book titled Baby Teeth and wondering how it compared. I was interested as the cover was romantic, old fashioned, but screamed modern. The colors were both perfect and overly done at first glance. And finally, it was a novel in verse, and I am always curious to see if they read as poetry or flow as a novel. And while it was not my OMG […]

I’m a little bit of Iveliz

Iveliz Explains It All by Andrea Beatriz Arango

June 10, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Iveliz Explains It All is a modern story about coming to terms with depression, grief, growing up, reaching out for help and all that is in between. It is relatable even to adults who have gone through the issues or are even currently going through the issues Iveliz must deal with. While best for ages 10 and up, even someone who is going through issues or for friends of those dealing with these issues will enjoy. Afterall, it is just a good, story. This book […]

When you think you’re a bad mom read this

here are Moms Way Worse Than You: Irrefutable Proof That You Are Indeed a Fantastic Parent by Glenn Boozan

April 7, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Bahahahaaha! OMG! Moms (and dads, too), if you think you are a bad parent, just remember all the wonderful things you did NOT do…like drink the blood of your child (looking at you Dracula ant), or feed your child your poop (koalas are obviously crappy cooks) or drop them 8 feet then kicked them because they were not moving fast enough (thanks giraffe moms) or toss your child to the dingoes (Quokka moms are unable to say that). This humorous book has a name longer […]
