Not so picture-perfect

Bunt! Striking Out on Financial Aid by Ngozi Ukazu

I looked at the cover and said to myself that I knew exactly what this book was about. Well, I wasn’t wrong, but I wasn’t right.  I guess I was on a superhero kick at the time as I felt it would have more of that element. I also thought she would have to struggle to paint/do art. And instead, she isn’t a “real magical power superhero” but our gal does perform a pretty neat trick: Getting Art Students to do the dreaded Group Project […]

I like uni uni unicorns! And cats! This book! And Venus (okay not her)

Unico V01: Awakening by Samuel Sattin

by Leave a Comment

The updated version of Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989) beloved tale Unico V01: Awakening has been created by Samuel Sattin and Gurihiru.  It is a sweet, but has a little edge, tale about a unicorn who has angered the goddess Venus, for no other reason than her jealousy of his beauty and how he is worshiped by her earthly followers. However, in a rare act of defiance, one of her servants defies Venus by hiding Unico from her. Living through time and space, Unico will have many […]

Crystal Cave (Sueño Bay Adventures, Volume 5) by Nancy Deas and Mike Deas

For the most part, you can read Crystal Cave (Sueño Bay Adventures, Volume 5) by Nancy Deas and Mike Deas separately from the others in the series. However, I am assuming it probably is best to start with book one, Shadow Island (I wasn’t sure who/what the pet/friend of our main character was). The story itself is not necessarily a new one, but it is told in a fun way that keeps you reading. Good illustrations and a nice fantasy/mystery/realistic story. The idea is that […]

My books; not your books….

All the Books by Hayley Rocco

Piper, a book loving chipmunk and I have a lot in common. We are both book lovers. We have cute, chubby cheeks, we’re not keen on sharing our books, and we both love books. Did I mention that already? Well it is true. And in fact, I’m a book dragon. Well, you might call it hoarding, but I call it dragon. And I would say that Piper is a dragon, too. Only I don’t go as extreme as she does. You see, Piper loves her […]

Cult of the Lamb Vol. 1: The First Verse by Alex Paknadel

Possible triggers (including, but not limited to violence, cults, magic) I have no clue what the publisher description means: In partnership with Devolver Digital and Massive Monster, Oni Press proudly presents Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse-the hugely anticipated first graphic novel exploration into the sprawling cosmology of the millions-selling, multiple BAFTA Award-nominated video game phenomenon that has Polygon begging players to “smash that worship button”! That’s good….. Right? There is more with: ANIMAL CROSSING MEETS HADES: This is Animal Crossing with sex and […]

Noodle & Bao by Shaina Lu

by Leave a Comment

The story of Noodle & Bao is obvious (the little guy taking on the big guy/the small town getting taken over by big money), but overall it is fun and fresh. There were a few bumps in the flow of things and the animals and human living side-by-side is odd (maybe it is because the people are that type of personalities?) but it keeps things light as we see gentrification at work. The use of details and colors are minimal but important. The extras at […]
