50 Drag Queens Who Changed the World by Dan Jones

June 2, 2022 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

Happy Pride, everyone! Dan Jones attempts to document the 50 most important drag queens who have changed the world. For each queen, he writes a couple of paragraphs about their accomplishments and impact on the world and there’s a cute illustration from Michele Rosenthal of each performer. This is admittedly a herculean undertaking, and Jones gives it a good go. On the whole, he does fine. There seems to be a concerted effort to not just include contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race on this list which […]

If You’re a Drag Queen and You Know It by Lil Miss Hot Mess

The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish by Lil Miss Hot Mess

April 19, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I saw a Facebook (or Instagram, it was late, I wasn’t paying attention where I was) post from the publisher of If You’re a Drag Queen and You Know It. I said, “That looks familiar.” I screenshot and then passed out. The following morning, I went to work to look up the book. Yes, it looked familiar because I had recognized the blue haired/bearded Queen from The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish.  As Hips is read to the tune of The […]

Be Amazing: A History of Pride by Desmond Napoles

June 30, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

An interesting fact about Be Amazing: A History of Pride is that it is not due until around July 21, 2020. One would have thought it would come out in June to make sure it could represent Pride Month. Yet, Desmond Napoles (aka Desmond is Amazing) has written a book that should not be limited to one month. Pride should not just be in June; pride should be year around. I expected this book to be about Desmond (despite the word history), but it is […]

“As it turned out, a pissed-off drag queen with a grappling hook was a force to be reckoned with.”

Death Prefers Blondes by Caleb Roehrig

March 5, 2019 by Mikki Blu 5 Comments

This book was featured on the GFY website, highly recommended by the Fug Girls, where it was touted as a cross between Alias and RuPaul’s Drag Race.  That comparison alone made me take notice!  As per the blurb:  Teenage socialite Margo Manning leads a dangerous double life. By day, she dodges the paparazzi while soaking up California sunshine. By night, however, she dodges security cameras and armed guards, pulling off high-stakes cat burglaries with a team of flamboyant young men. In and out of disguise, she’s in […]
