“There are no squids in America!” (a la An American Tale)

The Pretender by K. A. Applegate

The Attack by K. A. Applegate

The Exposed by K. A. Applegate

The Sickness by K.A. Applegate

August 18, 2025 by cosbrarian 2 Comments

I don’t know how they did it, but these Animorphs books just keep getting crazier. I’m almost sad I skipped a few “skippable” titles, cuz what crazy hijinks am I missing?! Book 23 – The Pretender A Tobias book. Tobias is having weird flashes when he hunts small prey, where he finds himself seeing the POV of said prey. He also learns a cousin is looking for him (since he seemingly disappeared into nowhere after becoming a hawk-4-life). Turns out that person was just Visser-3 […]

A boy wearing a sweatshirt and jeans morphs into a hawk against a purple background.

From a Hawk Tuah Boy Again

The Change by K. A. Applegate

April 5, 2025 by cosbrarian 2 Comments

How many Hawk Tuah jokes do I get to make for this reading challenge? Anyway, Book 13 of the Animorphs is narrated by Tobias, our boy who accidentally stayed in his hawk morph too long, and is now permanently stuck in a hawk’s body. It has its ups and downs, and lately he’s really been missing his human form, and feeling like he is a useless member of the Animorphs because he can’t morph. He meets a pair of Hork-Bajir, dinosaur-like aliens who make up […]

Animorphs #12 Predicts The Substance?!

The Forgotten by K. A. Applegate

The Reaction by K. A. Applegate

March 11, 2025 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

OK I’m not gonna bury the lede here: Rachel gives birth to a crocodile through her back. But how did we get there? Animorphs book 11, The Forgotten, would have been a cool little book if it had any point in existing in the first place. Now, I am still only 1/6th of the way through this series, so perhaps its relevance is yet to reveal itself. But plotwise, the Animorphs basically get caught in a time-travel oopsie-daisie when the Yeerks shoot their big laser […]

Dogs are purest good boys, even in Animorphs

Megamorphs #1: The Andalite’s Gift by K. A. Applegate

The Alien by K. A. Applegate

The Secret by K. A. Applegate

The Android by K. A. Applegate

March 5, 2025 by cosbrarian 1 Comment

Oops, I forgot to review my books! I am still chugging along in The Animorphs series! I fell off of it briefly but am catching back up. I was going to skip some volumes, but it turns out my brain is too COMPLETEST for that, so at this point I’ve read the first ten books, plus the first Megamorphs volume. Megamorphs #1: The Andalite’s Gift: Megamorphs is sort of the “super specials” of the series (shoutout to my BSC babes). Those are an ensemble narrative, […]

A blond white teen girl wearing a red t-shirt and black pants transforms into a grizzly bear.

Don’t choose the bear, BE the bear. (Animorphs Challenge)

The Predator by K.A. Applegate

The Capture by K.A. Applegate

The Stranger by K.A. Applegate

By book 6 of the Animorphs series, our kids are really starting to GO THROUGH IT, and by “GO THROUGH IT,” I mean they are getting dismembered on a regular basis. Usually it’s in their animal morph though. At this point. I’m seven books into the series. Our kids have acquired dozens of animals’ DNA at this point, including vertebrates AND invertebrates. They’re also starting to lean into their favorites. For battle, Jake relies on tiger, Rachel goes elephant or bear, Cassie goes wolf, and […]

“Could animorphing BE any creepier?”

The Message by K. A. Applegate

The Predator by K. A. Applegate

January 23, 2025 by cosbrarian 4 Comments

As of book five, I have officially read an Animorphs book from each main character’s POV, and I gotta say, I’m a Marco girlie. But I was always a big fan of the funny short guy (Max Casella in Newsies, I’ll love you forever). In book 4, The Message, Cassie and Tobias begin receiving telepathic messages from an unknown creature in need. The group figures out it’s likely an Andalite that is seemingly stuck in their spaceship underwater, and they learn to morph into dolphins […]

I think there is more visibility for stories with older and middle aged women. I’m here for it.

I'm really enjoying what feels like an increase in good stories about middle aged women. Maybe they just didn't come...
