Reunited and It Doesn’t Feel Good At All

The Reunion by K.A. Applegate

The Conspiracy by K.A. Applegate

Hey, remember last January when I said I was gonna read all the Animorphs books in one year? WELL, I DIDN’T! I got less than one-half of the way through! But, to be fair, my own book came out last year AND it was the first year of P3d0President 2.0 so I was pretty f*ckin’ busy being an author and being mad all the time! THE REUNION is book 30 in the series. It’s a Marco book so you know it will be full of […]

The Invasion by Chris Grine

I read all six of the Animorphs Graphic novels by Chris Grine! I read the first book with my tween book group at the library, and it was so fun to talk to them about it. They generally really liked it. Only one kid was skeeved out by the morphing. Most of them didn’t really get the main conflict, though. I’m not sure if this is because they are too young (many are third graders) or if the portrayal of the Yeerks isn’t very clear. […]

Don’t choose the bear, BE the bear. (Animorphs Challenge)

The Predator by K.A. Applegate

By book 6 of the Animorphs series, our kids are really starting to GO THROUGH IT, and by “GO THROUGH IT,” I mean they are getting dismembered on a regular basis. Usually it’s in their animal morph though. At this point. I’m seven books into the series. Our kids have acquired dozens of animals’ DNA at this point, including vertebrates AND invertebrates. They’re also starting to lean into their favorites. For battle, Jake relies on tiger, Rachel goes elephant or bear, Cassie goes wolf, and […]

Can Monsters Still Stalk in the Light?? Uh, YES.

January 14, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

I did it! Thanks to a double ear infection, a sinus infection  AND strep I was able to read this six book series in seven days.  It was a bumpy ride.  All the books were good, but they were all full of suffering, pain, death, murder, suicide, (a little bit of love) and not a whole lot of hope.  But I made it through them all and I’m glad that I did because this was a pretty solid series.  Book seven, Light, has a couple […]

Never Read Books About Plagues When You’re Sick

January 11, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

Don’t expect me to keep up this reading pace, I’m going to drop back soon, for sure. I decided not to grade anything and just read in bed, on the couch or wherever my kids would let me be sick and “semi-participate” in life while coughing, sneezing, and snorting.  So this is book four in the Gone series and while I’m enjoying reading these books, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone if you’re having a bad go of things lately–you might smile for a second […]

Sh*t Just Got Real

January 9, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

Where I was feeling that perhaps after book two of this series I was going to let it go, I couldn’t without finding out what happens to the kids trapped in the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone). I’m glad that I didn’t stop reading the series. This book surpassed book two by a mile…but man, did it get dark. I literally cannot talk about nearly any aspect of the plot without spoiling things from books one and two…I’ve tried three times to write this review, […]
