I am getting E.A. Poe vibes here….

Forever Maps by Michael Lagace

July 15, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

cbr14bingo Gaslight Level 2 Forever Maps could fit several of the categories, but I am picking Gaslight as this is a book started in the late 1770’s and ends “now” (or at the very least sometime after the late 1940’s), There are horses and carriages are sent to fetch people, with cars only show up at the end. There are traveling salesmen who go to trading post after western store, and a character who is a cruel, perhaps even evil, but truly sad, liar. Michael […]

Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou

June 18, 2019 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I picked this one up based on its very good Cannonball Read reviews and because I needed a book of non-violent true crime for the 2019 Read Harder Challenge. This book did not disappoint. I admit, some how I had missed the entire Theranos story as is broke in 2016, so I can to this narrative entirely unspoiled. I was in for quite the narrative ride. Bad Blood is the story of Elizabeth Holmes and the company she founded at 19 as a Stanford dropout, […]

The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty

The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty

March 17, 2019 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So my sister has been reading and recommending to me Liane Moriarty books for a few years.  I have sooo many books on my TBR list, so it took me a while to get started.  I found this one on my library’s audiobook loan list.  Not only was it an awesome book, it was read by an Australian, so it sounded even more awesome.  I was listening to this book in my car and while I walked my dog at night around the park.  I’m […]

Sh*t Just Got Real

January 9, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

Where I was feeling that perhaps after book two of this series I was going to let it go, I couldn’t without finding out what happens to the kids trapped in the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone). I’m glad that I didn’t stop reading the series. This book surpassed book two by a mile…but man, did it get dark. I literally cannot talk about nearly any aspect of the plot without spoiling things from books one and two…I’ve tried three times to write this review, […]

Family Dinners Are Killer

July 2, 2015 by Melina Leave a Comment

We begin with an anniversary. A family prepares to mourn the one year loss of a son and brother but there are two problems–the family is so fractured that they don’t even want to be in the same room as each other and two, there’s a madman who plans on killing them all because of the secrets they are keeping from one another.  From the outside the family seems to have everything.  They have a loving dog, a gigantic house with all the fancy amenities, […]
