Final Destination

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty

January 18, 2025 by Sophia 1 Comment

I’ve been a fan of Liane Moriarty ever since I got sucked into reading Big Little Lies back in 2015. When I saw that she had a new book out, Here One Moment (2024), I knew I was going to read it. Unfortunately, Here One Moment, is my least favorite of Moriarty’s novels. It’s not bad, but it did not live up to my high expectations. Fortunately, it did get better once I got past the beginning of the novel. On a delayed flight from […]

What if…? Aussie edition.

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty

How is it that I, a middle-class, middle-aged white Australian woman, have never read a Moriarty book before now?! I was failing all sorts of stereotypes but NO MORE. I have joined my clan. I have Moriartied. I have no regrets. ‘Here One Moment’ starts with a great What If…? premise. What if, on a frustratingly delayed domestic flight from Hobart to Sydney, an elderly woman suddenly rises from her seat, points at you, and says ‘I expect you to die by [cause] at [age]’. […]

“You won’t necessarily win against fate, but you should at least put up a fight.”

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty

I am a huuuuuge fan of Liane Moriarty. I came to her as I’m sure a lot of people did, with her breakout hit Big Little Lies and I’ve never looked back. I am yet to find a book of hers that doesn’t completely capture my attention, as I forego all responsibilities and obligations in favor of reading. This book was no different, as it had me spellbound, though it was a bit more of a headscratcher than her previous books, with more mystical and magical elements […]

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty

On a flight from Hobart to Sydney, a strange woman goes up the aisle delivers unnerving predictions to the passengers about when and how they will die. At first the passengers dismiss it as some kind of stunt, try to put it out of their minds – until the first deaths begin. When I reveal that I enjoy reading tarot cards, people inevitably ask if I actually think I can predict the future with them. Actually I am not really sure if one can, but […]

Destiny? Maybe…

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty

Best for: Fans of her previous work. Fans of books that follow multiple peoples’ perspectives. People who enjoyed ‘The Measure.’ In a nutshell: On a delayed flight between Hobart and Sydney, Australia, a woman name Cherry walks up the aisle saying ‘I expect’ followed by an age at death and a cause of death for nearly ever person on the plane. Within a month or so, three of her ‘predictions’ turn out to be correct. So the question is – who is Cherry, what does […]

“There is no special protection when you cross that invisible line from your ordinary life to that parallel world where tragedies happen. It happens just like this. You don’t become someone else. You’re still exactly the same. Everything around you still smells and looks and feels exactly the same.”

Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty

CBR Bingo – Oceania Australian literary phenomenon Liane Moriarty has done it again!! Or I guess, she did it again a while back because this isn’t her newest book, but it’s gripped me just like all the rest. Hold my calls. Feed my dog. I’m stuck in a book. Moriarty has a slick formula that relies on foreshadowing to hook you from the beginning. Much like in “Big Little Lies” we know at the start of the book that something awful happened to tear these […]
