Guys, I waited sooooo long to read this. I originally put it on hold at my library SIX MONTHS AGO. It was “on order” for five of those months. I waited so patiently. And then one day I got an email from my library informing me my hold had been canceled, because they couldn’t find a copy of the book to buy for the library’s collection. BOOOOOO. Hisssssss. So I ordered it through interlibrary loan and waited another month. And then it arrived! There was […]
Oh Hi, James Coburn.
What are they, why are they here, what purpose do they serve ? I summarily review the second volume of Apocalypse Mania. (Read the rest of the review here.)
What are we doing?
This is a review of all three volumes of Alex + Ada. You can buy all three for about $34 USD. The review is spoiler free for all three volumes, beyond basic details of volume one. Alex + Ada is a quiet story about friendship, sacrifice, and sexy sex robots. I’ve read a thousand comics, and this series immediately moved to the top of my list. Alex is a single guy in the near future. He has an ok job and a strong, small circle […]
The girls are back in town
After seeing all the hype about the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, I finally decided to check out a comic that involved Harley Quinn. I figured a girl-power story, teaming Harley up with a personal favourite of mine, unapologetic femme fatale Poison Ivy, and a hit-or-miss character, Catwoman, was the way to go. Plus it gives me vintage spandex onesie Harley, as opposed to her awful, tramptastic new-52 outfit. First, let’s get this out of the way – yes, the art is full of ridiculously […]
Great book ruined by atrocious art.
Cognitive dissonance is balls. So, look. I love Kelly Sue DeConnick’s writing. I love Carol Danvers. In general, I am a huge fan of everything that is going down in this book. BUT THE ART WAS SO DISTRACTING AND I HATED IT. The first two issues were okay. Dexter Soy continued his run from the first volume. And while I’m not a fan of his art, either, at least he manages to draw people that look like actual people. Starting at issue #9, Filipe Andrade […]
Funny History
This book is filled with comic strips that make fun of history and literature, LOVED IT. Are you a snarky nerd? I’m betting you will love it too. Comparing beat poets to hipsters? Dude watching with the Brontes? Jules Verne has a crush on EA Poe, Wonder Woman is a little jaded, spam pigeons, the Church of Bros, 15th Century Peasant Romance comics, Austen mania, Sirens with duck-face. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book. I finished it in one sitting, […]
