YOJNE SIHT KOOB!

April 24, 2018 by Halbs Leave a Comment

For you giant dorks who don’t even know a lot about B-level DC Comics heroes, Zatanna Zatara is a very cool magician descended from a long line of magicians. By night, she performs stage shows in Vegas, San Francisco, and all over the world. By…later in night, she fights crime, often of the paranormal variety. You got problems with demons escaped from hell or inter-dimensional monsters? Z’s your girl.  As always, my favorite version of this particular DC character is written by the great Paul […]

Great Harley and Ivy Stories, Non-Bus Friendly Art

August 17, 2017 by Halbs Leave a Comment

Harley and Ivy is a followup to Dini and Timm’s Mad Love, a Harley Quinn-centric collection I gave a hearty five stars to only a month ago. While Mad Love was about Harley and Joker, this book follows the hijinks of two of Batman’s more famous villains.  The main story in this collection is a fun around-the-world adventure in which Harley and Ivy cause trouble in Gotham, traipse through an exotic rain forest, and make their debuts in Hollywood. The varied settings provide opportunities for a […]

The Best of the Dini/Timm Batverse

July 3, 2017 by Halbs 2 Comments

Growing up, Batman was my guy thanks to Batman: The Animated Series. I loved the look and the mood of the show. Two guys largely responsible for that landmark show are writer Paul Dini and illustrator Bruce Timm. The third member of that B:TAS trinity is voice director Andrea Romano, who gave us our definitive Batman – Kevin Conroy. The success of the animated show translated well back into comics, many of which have been collected and reviewed by me in The Batman Adventures.  Dini […]

The girls are back in town

July 30, 2015 by kdm Leave a Comment

After seeing all the hype about the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, I finally decided to check out a comic that involved Harley Quinn.  I figured a girl-power story, teaming Harley up with a personal favourite of mine, unapologetic femme fatale Poison Ivy, and a hit-or-miss character, Catwoman, was the way to go.  Plus it gives me vintage spandex onesie Harley, as opposed to her awful, tramptastic new-52 outfit.   First, let’s get this out of the way – yes, the art is full of ridiculously […]
