I’m a sucker for a Kindle Challenge

Cruel Winter with You by Ali Hazelwood

February 19, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I wouldn’t call myself the greatest lover of romance novels. In fact, I generally don’t enjoy a book without murder / suspense / mystery, unless it’s really well written. This book was fine, and it satisfied the “Love Letters” achievement for the New Year Kindle Challenge. Like I said, I love a good Kindle Challenge. This one specifically required reading a kindle version of a romance book. As this one was a short story, and written by Ali Hazelwood, it was right up my alley. […]

Are you trying to scam someone? Am I gonna have to learn a bunch of facts about you so we can pretend we’ve been in love for years?

The Backup by cheeryos

December 29, 2025 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

The Backup by cheeryos “Poor Ronan here might as well be celibate. How long has it been?” She whispers theatrically, “I think he’s saving himself for Vin Diesel.” Ronan shoves her to shut her up. She’s wrong, anyways. He had always wanted to be Vin Diesel growing up. Which, naturally, meant that he’d wanted to fuck Paul Walker. Now that it’s been brought up, he notices that Adam kind of fits into the Paul Walker mold, with his blue eyes and tanned face and wheat-stalk […]

A Man for Mrs. Claus by Rebekah Weatherspoon

It’s all about Mrs. Claus

A Man for Mrs. Claus by Rebekah Weatherspoon

December 27, 2025 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I needed to get into the holiday spirit, and A Man for Mrs. Claus by Rebekah Weatherspoon did the trick. Even though I’m recovering from surgery, I also wanted to read along with The Ripped Bodice LA fantasy book club. This was their December pick, and I was able to snag the Cover Snob special edition. This North Pole Santa-verse finds angels recruiting souls to bring holiday cheer. We meet Tiffany, aka Mrs. Claus, saying goodbye to her current Santa Claus husband. He’s moved on […]

A soldier’s diary from the front lines of seasonal employment

Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris

December 24, 2025 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

My costume is green. I wear green velvet knickers, a yellow turtleneck, a forest-green velvet smock, and a perky stocking cap decorated with spangles. This is my work uniform. ― David Sedaris, Holidays on Ice I’ve read this, listened to the public radio broadcast of David Sedaris’s reading, and I’ve seen a performance of The Santaland Diaries. It’s been a while, so this was a fun yet illuminating reread. David is a thirty-three-year-old man hired to be an elf at Santaland in at Macy’s in […]

The book that was read to me

The Christmas Snow Globe by Sibylle Delacroix

December 19, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I had the opportunity to have The Christmas Snow Globe by Sibylle Delacroix “read” to me via a YouTube video. However, I have read it before (both  times I am assuming via an online reader). Both times I felt the story was sweet, funny and cute. However, the adult me isn’t a fan of sledding down the stairs! The kid me wonders where can I find a sled?  It is hard to talk about it, unless I tell you the story. Two children are waiting […]

After you moo, baa and lalala

A Dance with Santa Claus by Sandra Boyton

Smooches! by Sandra Boyton

Iguana Miss You! by Sandra Boyton

When Pigs Fly!: A Song for Dreamers by Sandra Boyton

December 10, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When my nephews were little I used to read Moo, Baa, Lalala by Sandra Boyton to them. I would read it so many times that I almost could read it without having to actually look at the book itself. Now, I need to make sure my great-niece has it so I can continue the tradition of reading to her (and having way too much fun making voices and sounds with her). And I will also be able to add a few new ones (or at […]
