December 1, 2016 by bonnie 5 Comments

November was a wretched, ugly month. This morning, I decided to ring in December on a high note, and I played Christmas music all.day.long. That helped. And then, I got home after a lovely post-work dinner with a good friend to a package laden with goodies from crystalclear: She gave me (from left to right) an adorable Beanie Baby tiger (how did you know stuffed animals were a total weakness of mine???), with the note, “In case things get sad,” Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred, Penelope […]

CBR8 book exchange thank you Lauri

December 1, 2016 by melanir 6 Comments

Thank you Lauri, this was waiting for me when I got home today. I had just finished battling traffic, made easier by the audio book and then this.  What a lovely surprise. Love! And Livie says thanks for the box.

CBR8 book exchange- thanks sister coyote

December 1, 2016 by Caitlin_D 3 Comments

Clearly Sister Coyote had a sixth sense. I was literally packing for a road trip when amazon delivered my gift exchange books. My poor husband will have to suffer through Oklahoma and Arkansas with little conversation now! Happy Christmahanukkakwanicaa to you all!

Sometimes You Get To Be Famous For A Job Well Done

June 14, 2016 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

In finishing Hamilton: The Revolution, and being mired by yet another round of inequality for women in our country, I decided to stay the course with another non-fiction book, this one about a dynamo of gender equality. I was familiar with Justice Ginsburg, but Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg gave me so much more.  Notorious RBG chronicles the personal history of RBG, her experiences in law school and pursuing a law career while being a mother (not an easy job […]

HO HO HO.

December 31, 2015 by narfna Leave a Comment

“IT’S THE EXPRESSION ON THEIR LITTLE FACES I LIKE, said the Hogfather. ‘You mean sort of fear and awe and not knowing whether to laugh or cry or wet their pants?’ YES. THAT SORT OF THING.” — This is my favorite Discworld book in quite some time. It’s just so good! It’s not as quippy or […]
