Pufflings Fly Free!: A Rescue Tale from Iceland by Colleen Paeff and by Linda Ólafsdóttir

May 21, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Recently (via email) I met someone who actually goes out and helps wood frogs and salamanders at night cross the road. I had heard about this, but never knew someone who actually did it. This person recommended their book Is It Time, Yet? (by Lynn Levine and Dirk Steinhoefel). I will be finding a copy of it soon. But in the meantime, I found Pufflings Fly Free!: A Rescue Tale from Iceland by Colleen Paeff and illustrated by  Linda Ólafsdóttir. This book is basically the […]

Green up Friend up

The Greenies V01 by Emma Mills and Sarah Nicole Kennedy

May 21, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Greenies V01 by Emma Mills and illustrator Sarah Nicole Kennedy Recently I have been locating many of my older links and then finding the books included in them are available, but I still have access to the links, but that is good, as I learn it is not “wow best book ever” just “that was good” so a physical copy is not wanted to keep. But that is also good as if you like the review you can run out and grab your own […]

Superheroes to the…. rescue?

Maker Girl and Professor Smarts by Jasmine Florentine

May 21, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Deep in the collection of my online reader links, Maker Girl and Professor Smarts by Jasmine Florentine showed up and I read it via that manner. Currently available, I’m glad I read this book via the online way for this cute and silly superhero story. While there was nothing wrong with the book, everything was not for me and therefore, I did not need a physical copy to keep. It is great for the second grade on up, as it has all the elements younger […]

Cover Story by Mhairi McFarlane

May 21, 2026 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I’ve read many books by Mhairi McFarlane and really enjoyed most of them. So, when I saw she had a new book out, Cover Story (2025), I knew I was going to read it. McFarlane writes romance-centric novels but with more developed characters and storylines than you sometimes see in your flimsier romances. McFarlane is Scottish and her books take place in England, so there are a lot of Britishisms and other cultural references that sometimes fly over my head. I still enjoy reading them, though. Bel […]

Cozy mystery, Singapore style

Aunty Lee's Delights (Singaporean Mystery #1) by Ovidia Yu

May 21, 2026 by Fiat.Luxury Leave a Comment

I was in Singapore for a week so I decided to look up Singaporean books to expand my understanding a little bit. It needed to be something I could read on an airplane, and it needed to be very Singapore. I landed on Aunty Lee’s Delights after seeing Ovidia Yu’s name come up in several “Must-Read: Singapore” lists.  Aunty Lee is an established lady of a certain age and class in Singapore. She’s also a bit — well, maybe more than a bit — of […]

“For better or worse” sometimes means being lost at sea for 117 days with each other.

A Marriage at Sea: A True Story of Love, Obsession, and Shipwreck by Sophie Elmhirst

May 21, 2026 by Fiat.Luxury Leave a Comment

I am attempting this year to read more non-fiction, so I picked this one up mostly because Barack Obama told me to.  Maralyn and Maurice were a bit of an odd couple (he was many years her senior, and a bit of a recluse; she was a young and beautiful dynamo) who married in the late 60s/early 70s in small town UK. They both wanted more adventure, so they began sailing. In 1973, they sold their house, finished building their yacht, and set out on […]
