Lovers to Enemies to Lovers

Not Your Ex’s Hexes by April Asher

May 30, 2024 by finnyfinfinn Leave a Comment

This is an adorable little supernatural romantic comedy in which two people have a one night stand and then part ways never to see each other again but remember the other fondly… Just kidding, this one also goes exactly as you’d expect. Rose Maxwell had been training all her life to represent the witches on the Supernatural Council. As her sister Violet discovered her magic in the last book and now has to take her rightful spot as the Prima, Rose has been a bit […]

Fantastic witchy YA!

How to Succeed in Witchcraft by Aislinn Brophy

May 16, 2024 by LB Leave a Comment

I got an arc of Aislinn Brophy’s upcoming Spells to Forget Us so being me, I decided to read her debut first, and this was phenomenal. Shay is in her junior year and burning the candle at both ends in the hopes of wining the Brockton scholarship, a scholarship for her school that would pay for college tuition and basically ensures she’d be able to go to a licensing college. There is so much good commentary on access and privilege and the American dream through […]

Fake Dates Are Great

Not The Witch You Wed by April Asher

April 7, 2024 by finnyfinfinn Leave a Comment

This is a sweet little confection of a supernatural romantic comedy in which two people fake date until they reach their stated goals then part as respectful friends… Just kidding, it goes exactly as you’d expect. Violet Maxwell is a witch without magic. She’s made a good life for herself away from the magical high society her family belongs to. But as the oldest Maxwell triplet the loophole she used to avoid a Witch Bond is closing. Alpha Wolf Lincoln Throne is coming up on […]

The book, "Weyward", by Emilia Hart held in front of blooming California wildflowers.

The struggles, tragedies, and triumphs of three women in three time periods

Weyward by Emilia Hart

March 22, 2024 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

My book club knocked it out of the park this month with Weyward. Coincidentally, Barnes and Noble chose it as this month’s speculative fiction pick. Clearly we have excellent taste. Emilia Hart has crafted a moving narrative across time by telling us the story of Altha Weyward in 1619, Violet Aryes in 1942, and Kate Aryes in 2019. Altha, Violet, and Kate are Weyward women. Born with the gift of being in tune with and connected to nature. For Altha, raised by her mother, another Weyward […]

Sabrina the Teenage Witches

The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland

March 13, 2024 by finnyfinfinn 2 Comments

Well they are all teenagers but definitely not the ABC Family Sabrina type witches, more the Netflix PG-13 type Sabrinas. Sadly no wisecracking Salem the cat here either, though there is a big silent demon. Zara Jones is desperately trying to find a way to bring her murdered sister back from the dead. Jude Wolf is a billionaire’s daughter suffering from a curse gone horribly wrong. Both girls urgently need a real witch to help them. Emer Byrne is a curse writer from a deceased […]

The Accursed Vampire V02 The Curse at Witch Camp by Madeline McGrane

March 6, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Ages ago I read the first The Accursed Vampire graphic novel story. I do not recommend reading volume two The Accursed Vampire V02 The Curse at Witch Camp that long after reading the first and defiantly not before reading volume one. In fact, I almost don’t recommend this series by Madeline McGrane at all. There is something about this series that is off for me. The biggest part is we bounce through the timelines of the characters and there is no warning this is happening. […]
