DNF Part 1: Crossing these off my list

The Greek Myths by Robert Graves

Troy by Stephen Fry

I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom

Paris Dallencourt Is About to Crumble by Alexis Hall

Here is the first batch of “did not finish” for CBR 15. Troy by Stephen Fry The audio book was 11 hours. Listened to about half of it. Skipped quite a bit. Still didn’t finish it. I read Mythos and thought that the audiobook version of Troy would be easier to digest. It was not. Greek Myths by Robert Graves This is basically an encyclopedia of Greek myths. Maybe you can use this as some sort of reference material. But I could not get through […]

I’m making a final push to wrap up CBR13 with my non-fiction review dump. I read more non-fiction this year than I thought I did, and I was never able to sum up my thoughts properly. I’m trying here, with just moments left!  Food | Jim Gaffigan Although I disagree with Mr. Gaffigan’s take on mustard, I still enjoyed reading Food. It’s a simple take on food — the good, the not so good, how it shapes us and our culture. It was extra light […]

A 12 year old’s erotic poetry and more!

I Want to Be Where The Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom

April 7, 2021 by Nart Leave a Comment

This is a niche book for a niche crowd, but if you’re in that niche… Hooey are you in for a crazy ride. Much like the author, it’s short, funny, and doesn’t pull its punches. If you’ve seen Crazy Ex Girlfriend, you know what you’re getting. Bloom talks about her struggles with mental health, her obsessions with Disney, romantic love, everybody liking her, being normal, not being normal, Harry Potter (and the difficulty of being a fan right now), and spending a lot of time […]

Be my friend, Rachel Bloom! Please!

I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom

February 23, 2021 by Mobius_Walker 3 Comments

Rachel Bloom is a comedic force. In her memoir I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are, Bloom walks us through her life from childhood all the way through the birth of her first child. Bloom holds nothing back. I mean nothing. There are stories about learning how to poop in a toilet, learning about and enjoying masturbation, how she was bullied as a child, what living with obsessive-compulsive disorder was like, and more! Bloom frequently dips in and out of presenting her life factually […]

Crazy New BEST Friend?!

I Want to be Where the Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom

I must start by thanking ASKReviews for letting us all know that there was a SECRET MUSICAL in the middle of this audiobook! I heeded their recommendation to “Get the Audio Version”, and boy howdy am I glad I did! Not only do we get a musical adventure about Rachel Bloom’s desire to be a musical theater STAAAR, the musical is performed by her harmonizing with herself, herself, herself, herself, and maybe another Rachel Bloom or two. Bloom’s voice is so important here; her style, […]

Rachel Bloom is the Rachel Bloom-iest and I lurv her

I Want To Be Where the Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom

December 4, 2020 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

If you do not know who Rachel Bloom is, she is the creator/star of the CW TV Show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” If you don’t know what that TV show is, buckle up. It is a 45 minute musical comedy show wherein the titled “crazy ex-girlfriend” uproots her life and moves from New York to West Covina California NOT because she runs into her camp ex-boyfriend but because she wants a change of pace. (Except it’s totally because of Josh but also because she is on the […]
