Here is the first batch of “did not finish” for CBR 15.
Troy by Stephen Fry
The audio book was 11 hours. Listened to about half of it. Skipped quite a bit. Still didn’t finish it. I read Mythos and thought that the audiobook version of Troy would be easier to digest. It was not.
Greek Myths by Robert Graves
This is basically an encyclopedia of Greek myths. Maybe you can use this as some sort of reference material. But I could not get through it without more context or at least some sort of flow to guide me through the myriad gods and titans, etc..
- I thought this was in the style of a comic book…because of the cover. Yep, this one’s on me.
- I read through some Amazon reviews to see if others made the same mistake. There was at least one person who did. Although, the reviewer who added, “watch out when reading these to your kids; these stories can get kind of pervy,” made my day.
I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are by Rachel Bloom
I had a very hard time following from one chapter to the next. From what I know of Rachel Bloom from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, I did not expect this memoir to be without a certain amount of weirdness. But each chapter heightened the cringe until it was too much for me to continue.
Paris Dallencourt is about to Crumble
I loved other books by Alexis Hall. But Paris is too annoying for me. At one point, I checked to confirm that I was at least halfway through the book. I was at 21%. I skipped ahead, searching for the funny, sexy, or romantic parts. Unfortunately, it was just more Paris being Paris. The writing was great. But the main character was too frustrating and his storyline was so tedious, I gave up at about 30%.
Marking this as CBR15Passport under books from different genres.
