Zooni is a plucky, friendly pup

Zooni Tales: Keep It Up, Plucky Pup by Vikram Madan

Zooni Tales: A Friend Till the End by Vikram Madan

I ended 2023 with two sequels read in the young adult category (a thriller/mystery/romance and a humorous/romance/fantasy graphic novel) and a young early reader that is part of a series but it sounds like you can read in any order. Each one showed a part of my personality.  And my very little kid came out when I read Zooni Tales: Keep It Up, Plucky Pup by Vikram Madan. And while I can take or leave Zooni, they have some interesting elements that could really make […]

I ended 2023 reading Part 2

Moonstruck Volume 2: Some Enchanted Evening by Grace Ellis

I ended 2023 with two sequels read in the young adult category and a young early reader that is part of a series but it sounds like you can read in any order. Each one showed a part of my personality.  After I read about Teen Killers/Assassins who are now in love and going on a Bonnie and Clyde-like spree (only, you know they are the “good guys””) I needed a little humor and read book two of the Moonstruck graphic novels. Moonstruck Volume 2: […]

Teen Killers Club V02 Teen Killers in Love, by Lily Sparks

I ended 2023 with two sequels read in the young adult category and a young early reader that is part of a series but it sounds like you can read in any order. Each one showed a part of my personality.  Though I do not think I am a teenage assassin (I really don’t like cleaning up messes and chasing/hunting people is soooooo much work) but I do like an escapist story and book two in the Teen Killers Club series, Teen Killers in Love, […]

Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson

From the official plot description: At the dawn of their adolescence, on the eve of the summer solstice, four young girls–Helena, Leonie, Niamh, and Elle–took the oath to join Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, established by Queen Elizabeth I as a covert government department. Now, decades later, the witch community is still reeling from a civil war and Helena is now the reigning High Priestess of the organization. Yet Helena is the only one of her friend group still enmeshed in the stale bureaucracy of HMRC. […]

The Shadow and the Ghost by Cat Min

A Damsel Not in Distress! by Bethan Stevens

Cat Min’s April 2024 picture book, The Shadow and the Ghost is an odd tale.  The story starts with a ghost and how they are not the typical ghost, and when they get the chance to make a wish on a falling star, they wish for a friend. They then see the rock they love sitting on with the word “Hi” written on it. Then we have a shadow of the rock. They are lonely too. You see, the ghost is from the night (when […]

An unsettling tale of true friendship and demons, literal and metaphorical.

My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix

by Leave a Comment

I don’t know exactly why I’m having such a hard time writing a review for this book. It’s pretty straightforward! (if weird). Best friends in the 1980s (get ready for some Reagan-era skewering) persevere through the power of friendship over evil. Plus lots of 80s nostalgia (including some contemporary language usage that was definitely common then but isn’t accepted now, so be warned if that might bother you). The thing about Grady Hendrix is that he knows how to write characters who are realistic and […]
