I ended 2023 reading Part 2

Moonstruck Volume 2: Some Enchanted Evening by Grace Ellis

December 28, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I ended 2023 with two sequels read in the young adult category and a young early reader that is part of a series but it sounds like you can read in any order. Each one showed a part of my personality.  After I read about Teen Killers/Assassins who are now in love and going on a Bonnie and Clyde-like spree (only, you know they are the “good guys””) I needed a little humor and read book two of the Moonstruck graphic novels. Moonstruck Volume 2: […]

Coffee, romance, and visions

Moonstruck, Vol. 1: Magic to Brew by Grace Ellis

December 5, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I was not “jumping up and down” over the graphic novel Moonstruck, Vol. 1: Magic to Brew, but it was interesting enough and I needed to keep moving through it. However, I either missed a panel or two, or some plot parts here and there, but the flow was not totally even, as there were a few bumps in continuity for me. However, there was the fun, colorful art (the bull character has really nice hair, the centaur is a hoot when they have something […]

When the romance isn’t too believable

Moonstruck Vlume 3 Troubled Waters by Grace Ellis, Shae Beagle

March 13, 2021 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I wasn’t too sure about the Moonstruck series after volume 2; volume 3 has redeemed things a bit. Even though it kind of splits of the coffee shop gang a little, with Chet (centaur) going off for an internship and Julie goes with Selena to a mermaid Festival. Most of the volume follows Julie and Selena, who meet up with Selena’s friend and roomie, the mermaid Skyla (Julie apparently has never met her and didn’t know Skyla and Selena live together). Naturally things don’t go […]

Teen Lois has a long way to go before she becomes Lois Lane, great journalist

Lois Land and the Friendship Challenge by Grace Ellis

December 1, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have an odd contradiction when it comes to my comic love. I prefer Marvel movies but prefer DC graphic novel stories. This might be since I have yet seen that many Marvel characters branched into middle readers and young adult graphic novels. (If you know some, please send my way!) Then I picked up Lois Land and the Friendship Challenge. I do not know if this was the second book in Grace Ellis’s series (or if it is a series), but the start of […]

Yuri and Victor are Lady Werewolves

July 1, 2018 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Moonstruck (Vol 1: Magic to Brew) has the potential to be something like Yuri on Ice, in that the story revolves around a really adorable same sex couple trying to navigate a new and promising relationship. It also features one character with confidence to spare, and another who has a habit of getting overwhelmed by self-doubt. While the core relationship reminds me of the beloved skating anime, there are some significant differences. First, Moonstruck’s main couple, Julie and Selena, who are female, live in a […]

Graphic Novel Flop

June 12, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am not sure if there were pages missing from my copy or there is a series before this that filled in some blanks, but the entire time I was reading I felt like I was in the middle of the story. I never saw what I would consider a beginning and when it ended I was thinking “Wait…that’s it? Shouldn’t there have been some kind of wrap up?” I know this is a series, but still the story ends where it started, in the […]
