The Real Puppy Power

The Great Puptective V01 by Alina Tysoe

Cloud Puppy V01 by Kelly Leigh Miller

I like trying to get all the Bingo categories as “pure” as possible. Even if I go with the spirit of things. And don’t like using Free Space if I can help it. It’s just a fun challenge for me. But I had the hardest  time with Fan Fiction. But eventually I found one that fit perfectly! And since the category is way out of my wheelhouse, I was very excited! I wasn’t going to have to use my FREE SPACE. But I could have […]

Camp and Doggies

Camp Nowhere #1: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow by Lea Taddonio

PAWS: Priya Puts Herself First by Nathan Fairbairn

Two books that found their way to my reading pile recently were one of my least favorite reads this year (so far), and the other was one that helped take out a lot of my “it’s an icky world out there” feelings away. As I said, I think  Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow (Camp Nowhere #1) by Lea Taddonio and illustrator Michelle Lamoreaux is one of my least favorite reads this year.  I borrowed these statements from other reviewers.   * “combine the idea of a comic […]

War! Destruction! Snacks! Dragon style

Wings of Fire Graphic Novel Book One: The Dragonet Prophecy by Tui T. Sutherland, Mike Holmes

Wings of Fire Graphic Novel Book Two: The Lost Heir by Tui T. Sutherland, Mike Holmes

Wings of Fire Graphic Novel Book Three The Hidden Kingdom by Tui T. Sutherland, Mike Holmes

Wings of Fire Graphic Novel Book Four The Dark Secret by Tui T. Sutherland, Mike Holmes

Wings of Fire Graphic Novel Book Five The Brightest Night by Tui T. Sutherland, Mike Holmes

The journey of the Wings of Fire Graphic Novel series was not a smooth one as I read volumes one and two out of order. Therefore, read the series in order, take your time and try to read as close together as possible as things pick up where we leave off from the previous book and it assumes you know the backstory.  Book One: The Dragonet Prophecy by Tui T. Sutherland, Mike Holmes I have not read the novels this series is adapted from. However, considering […]

If Mr. Rogers was that quirky uncle, LeVar Burton was that cool older cousin

My Friend LeVar by Ezra Edmond

by 2 Comments

I saw the title: My Friend LeVar. And I wondered, “Is this the LeVar?” The Mr. LeVar Burton who was one of the influential parts of my reading childhood? And yes, Ezra Edmond’s picture book (due in October 2024 and read via an online reader copy, and illustrated by Jenna Nahyun) was about that LeVar Burton. The story is unusual in the sense that it is not your usual action book. There is a lesson, but not the ones you usually get. The story is […]

We miss you, Rosie

Dear Rosie by Meghan Boehman

Dear Rosie by Meghan Boehman and Rachael Briner is a tender story about loss, grieving and how everyone is different, but we all need someone to talk to. The story is realistic and relatable, as are the characters. The adult me was prepared for a bunch of spoiled kids doing dumb things and really wondering how they will make it. But after I finished both my adult and kid selves had fallen into deep like with them. They were believable and I could see myself […]

Having fun and making money

Art Club by Rashad Doucet

by Leave a Comment

Art Club by Rashad Doucet is fun. It has a modern take on things, has a mostly diverse cast, and while we know the coming of age story, it is fresh. Best for ages 10 and up (younger can read, but I’m not sure the concepts would be okay for some. Content is fine). There were a few bumps (things solved too conveniently, a few cliches for the adult characters) but overall everything works well. The idea is how the adults in our main character’s […]
