Robot Dreams? More like a nightmare.

Robot Dreams by Sara Varon

cbr13bingo White Whale (I finally get around to reading and was very disappointed) I think I have found the first book in the First Second lexicon that I really did not like. For the most part I had only heard good things about Robot Dreams by Sara Varon. It sounded interesting due to reviews, but once I picked it up, I realized one big thing: it is a wordless graphic novel. So, what was everyone talking about? How can you get a story without the […]

Their costumes are made of cardboard, but their hearts are made of gold

The Cardboard Kingdom V02 Roar of the Beast by Chad Sell

cbr13bingo Gateway  (This (so far two book) graphic novel series is one that I am not a huge fan of, but I know they are good for today’s readers. They introduce modern subjects (GLBTQ related) but also the classics like bullies and friendship issues. I recommend this to both starting in the genre of graphic novel and one if you’ve been into GNs for a bit).   The Cardboard Kingdom V02 Roar of the Beast is: a graphic novel. It is a colorful graphic novel at […]

Hauntingly awesome

cbr13bingo Self Care  Self Care to me is having fun. Halloween is fun (I mean CANDY????) and costumes (I have had more fun with costumes as an adult then I ever did as a kid, and I had some crazy fun costumes. Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother with her sign of qualifications anyone? Or years before, homemade paper mice in a cage (all connected) made by grandpa for the Cinderella costume?) Also, fun? Reading books. All types of books. Big ones, small ones, picture books, novels, poetry… […]

Cat & Cat V01 Adventures The Quest for Snacks by Susie Yi

cbr13bingo Travel (they travel to a magical world and I’d like to see a mermaid-cat, a fairy bunny and a lava dog!) “Dear Representative of this particular company. Would you be so kind as to send me these three reader copies of these books? Of course, if you cannot I would prefer book X as my first choice.” Or something like that was the email I sent to a rep of a publisher. I had asked for three books. And Cat & Cat V01 Adventures […]

You had Frog and Toad, Winnie-the-Pooh, and The Wind in the Willows. Now you have Skunk and Badger

Skunk and Badger #2 Egg Marks the Spot by Amy Timberlake

cbr13bingo Landscape (you can see the lake if you look carefully) Skunk and Badger #2 Egg Marks the Spot by Amy Timberlake is most likely even better than the first! Our heroes, Skunk (sweet, a bit naïve, passionate, a tad inconsiderate) and Badger (gruff, scientific, hungry, a good guy) decide to take off on an adventure to replace Badger’s missing rock in his collection. Skunk leads with his heart like he always does while packing; Badger takes on the task with common sense. But both will […]

I have never loved garlic so much in my life!!!!!

Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen

cbr13bingo The Wilds  This is one of the DARNDEST CUTEST BOOKS I HAVE READ THIS YEAR. I picked Garlic and the Vampire up July 13, 2021 and would have read the entire thing right then and there if I had not been at work.  I had read a bit about it and thought it sounded cute but was hoping it would live up to the hype of the pre-publication reviews, the promotions, and the fact it just sounded so darn good (after all, hype something […]
