“Dear Representative of this particular company. Would you be so kind as to send me these three reader copies of these books? Of course, if you cannot I would prefer book X as my first choice.”
Or something like that was the email I sent to a rep of a publisher. I had asked for three books. And Cat & Cat V01 Adventures The Quest for Snacks by Susie Yi, was my third choice. However, when I finished it (it was the first one I picked up out of the three as it was the shortest), I was glad it was sent to me.
This young graphic novel follows the adventures of two magical cats who accidently get sent on a journey that turns into an adventure about friendship, having fun, using your strengths, and using both passion and logic.
Squash and Ginny are two cat besties who wait for their human to leave the house to head off to their hidden realm. They spend the day in a dream apartment with comfy furniture, books, decorations, and snacks. Until there are no more snacks. This is when the two decided, with the help of Squash’s magic, to whip up a spell to make more. But they are missing ingredients and will need to journey to find them.
But because Ginny leads with her heart and without planning, accidently opens a magical portal when she misuses Squash’s wand. Of course, you the adult reader know that it will work out; but the child (aged 6 to young 9/10) will wonder if they will get their ingredients and find their way home as the wand was broken. They meet a mermaid-cat, have a swimming race, find a lava dog, answer riddles and so much more. Everything is fun, silly and even this reader, was wondering, “What happens next?” It kept me on the edge of my seat!
This book is clever, with cleverly simple (not simplistic) colorful art. Details that are needed to move the story along are presented on the page. They do not crowd the pages/panels, but they fill them with the needed information to show you the wonder and fun they have.
