Baby Blue your friends got you

Baby Blue by Bim Eriksson

August 26, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Baby Blue by Bim Eriksson and translator Melissa Bowers was another one of those books I looked at the cover of and said, “Why did I request this?” (As I got it through my library). I don’t remember why, but as I sit here typing this review, I think it probably is getting some attention for the fact it is pretty awesome (if not a “What did I read?” and one of the more odd reads of the year so far) book. I think it […]

More than a broken heart

The Faint f Heart by Kerilynn Wilson

April 20, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Due to a few bumps in the story arc of The Faint f Heart, but particularly due to the artwork, this book is a 4.5 (rounded up to 5). This is a love story to emotions and feelings. It has realistic, science-fiction and fantasy vibes but is all too likely to happen scenario, or at least is within reason. When you play with the heart, emotions happen, and Kerilynn Wilson explores what happens when people find a way to stop feeling those emotions.   June […]

Sheep in Wolf Clothing

The Wolf Suit by Sid Sharp

December 6, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Wolf Suit by Sid Sharp is an interesting story about being yourself, being brave, and learning that the scary things are a little less scary with friends. You will have a love or hate relationship with the illustrations, as they have an abstract realism to them. They are colorful and detailed, and they support the story. The overall feeling to the text of Sid Sharp is that it might have been a translation, and that is supported by the art giving off European vibes […]

A nod to Dollhouse the show

Dolltopia by Abby Denson

July 7, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I think Abby Denson’s ponytail is too tight! They created one outrageous, crazy, mixed-up commentary on life, love, and the pursuit of happiness when they made Dolltopia. Denson tells the story of (even from the first conscious moment in the Doll Factory), a doll (Kitty Ballerina) realizing that she wants more. She did not even wait for the mind-numbing play with the humans before she realized doll life sucked. She finally gets up the nerve to break away from the dream house and Soccer Scotty […]
