God forbid the beautiful, eligible daughter of a duke have hobbies

Lady Knight by Amalie Howard

April 15, 2025 by Malin Leave a Comment

Nowhere Books Bingo 25: Book by an author you’ve never read Thank you to Netgalley and Joy Revolution for this ARC. My opinions are my own. Lady Zenobia “Zia” Osborn and several of her female friends have started a secret society, calling themselves Lady Knights, and at night, they dress up as highwaymen and rob the carriages of Lady Zia’s brother’s rich friends. They need to collect enough money to ensure the survival of their boarding school, not to mention the orphanage next door to […]

Not sure if I’ll read the sequels

The Changeling: Volume 1 by Tina N. Lugo

April 9, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Tina N. Lugo’s The Changeling: Volume 1 was not a “pure” three, but is not a 2 either. Maybe a 2.75? It is a series that needs all volumes to be read at once and that would have probably boosted the rating. Volume 2 should be available and volume 3 is due end of April/early may 2025.  There are a few pages of introduction in this first volume that allows the reader to have background information on the characters, which allows you to be able […]

Cranky, Crabby Crow (Saves the World) by Corey R. Tabor

April 7, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

At first I didn’t think I would like Cranky, Crabby Crow (Saves the World),  but the twist at the end is perfect for kids of all ages. The idea of Corey R. Tabor is simple: a Crow chases off anyone who wants to befriend him, get him to play or give advice. But things are not what they seem. There is a ring-ring nearby, a secret conversation and message (a sassy Kaw!) and one heck of a surprise for the reader. This simple thing turns […]

A Lonely Grave in a Far Land

The Wide Wide Sea: Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Fateful Final Voyage of Captain James Cook by Hampton Sides

April 7, 2025 by Pooja Leave a Comment

Captain James Cook was already a world-renowned explorer when he set out on his third great voyage around the world. Over the course of three years, he’d touch down on the shores of Tasmania, be the first European to come in contact with the people of the Hawaiian islands, and nearly destroy his ships and sailors in the search for the fabled Northwest Passage – and meet a grisly end in a strange murder that is still being debated to this very day. I read […]

Trail of the Lost: The Relentless Search to Bring Home the Missing Hikers of the Pacific Crest Trail by Andrea Lankford

April 1, 2025 by Pooja Leave a Comment

There have been people attempting to thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail since it was first established, and where people congregate there is also always some amount of tragedy. But when three young man vanish from the trail in a three-year period, former park ranger Andrea Lankford gets fascinated by the search for them. For a person who one day wants to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail (after a lot of preparation, mind you), I find myself reading a lot about wilderness disaster and crime stories. Maybe […]

Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast V07 Whodonut?: A Holiday Mystery by Josh Funk and Brendan Kearney

April 1, 2025 by BlackRaven 1 Comment

Josh Funk and Brendan Kearney had me at Miss Maple and lost me at gummy bugs! Okay, well, they didn’t lose me, just made me pause. But then they had me again at Elvis Parsley.  This seventh addition to the Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast series, Whodonut?: A Holiday Mystery is a fun, cute and different holiday story. While the “Who Dun-it” aspect and the idea of the last book in a series is not new, the way Funk and Kearney presents things is […]
