I wish I may, I wish I might, have a friend to play with tonight

The Witchling’s Wish by Lu Fraser

January 19, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When I posted on Facebook that I had read seven books (all though picture books) I lied, a little. You see it was actually nine (picture) books (I had a busy picture book day). And one of them was The Witchling’s Wish by Lu Fraser and Sarah Massine. Due in July 2022, this book about a young witch (with a not so pointy hat) who wants a friend. She does not mind the critters living with her, or the drips of occasional rain, but she […]

Bayou love and magical mischief

Love and Other Wild Things by Molly Harper

December 30, 2021 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

Love and Other Wild Things is the second book in the Mystic Bayou series by Molly Harper. Said bayou deep in Louisana attracts magical beings. The town is near a mysterious rift that’s catnip to shifters, witches, and any other magic being that you name. Decades ago humans and magi settled in Mystic Bayou. They mostly live in harmony. Through the series, we meet scientists who have come to observe and research the unique place. In the first book, How to Date Your Dragon, an […]

Finally an HEA (sort of) for Rachel Morgan

The Undead Pool by Kim Harrison

December 29, 2021 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

I’ve hit my half-Cannonball with one of my favorite books of the year. I had hoped for a proper 52 books cannonball, but alas, life happened. I’ve been reviewing The Hollows series by Kim Harrison nearly every Cannonball Read challenge. I was SO close to catching up with the original ending of the series. That is until Harrison restarted it last year with American Demon. I love how has the whole Inderland community in her stories: witches, demons, vampires, werewolves, fairies, elves, pixies, you name it. […]

Magical love in a small town

Witch Please (Fix It Witches #1) by Ann Aguirre

December 28, 2021 by teresaelectro 2 Comments

I can’t say no to a witch-y romance. I liked Ann Aguirre’s Grimspace, so it was a no-brainer to pre-order Witch Please. I had planned to read it in time for The Ripped Bodice book club. Alas, life got in the way. I did finish it up during the Thanksgiving break. This small-town romance brings together baker Titus and secret witch Danica. Danica lives with her cousin Clem. Together they own a local repair shop where they can practice their special magic to fix broken things. […]

A talking cat that only says ‘Treats.’

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

November 3, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

I wouldn’t change a lick of this. I can’t really think of a reason not to give it five stars. I sat down on a Sunday morning and read this straight through, and it was a pleasure and a delight. I’ve been reading as many fluffy and witchy reads as I can since the beginning of September because I’m just feeling that right now, and publishers have been so obliging. I liked Witch, Please, and loved Payback’s a Witch. And I loved this one, too. Sometimes you […]

Payback's a Witch

A delightful sapphic fall romance… with witches!

Payback's a Witch by Lana Harper

October 19, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

This is a perfect sapphic fall romance. It’s atmospheric, a little bit angsty, and wickedly hilarious. Emmy Harlow’s been away from her hometown of Thistle Grove for nine years, and just about the only thing that could drag her back was a pleading letter from her father asking her to uphold the family tradition in the Gauntlet, a magical competition held every fifty years between the heirs of the four witch families that founded the town – well, except for the Harlows, who just arbitrate […]
