When I posted on Facebook that I had read seven books (all though picture books) I lied, a little. You see it was actually nine (picture) books (I had a busy picture book day). And one of them was The Witchling’s Wish by Lu Fraser and Sarah Massine.
Due in July 2022, this book about a young witch (with a not so pointy hat) who wants a friend. She does not mind the critters living with her, or the drips of occasional rain, but she does get lonely and wishes for a friend. When she decides to do what she does best (well does okay), which is create a spell tht will bring her a friend, that is when things get interesting. Now some ingredients are easy to find, like earwax of lizard, but there is one ingredient that is not only not available in her home, but it also sounds dangerous! It is the fur of a one-eyed-teddy bear! Can she do this challenge?
The illustrations really bring this adorable book about friendship together. They are bright, colorful, bouncy, adorable, and happy. They even are sweet and gentle when things are not as upbeat as they cold be. They are cozy, comfortable, lively, moving the story along. Everything is complimentary to each other and with the text. There is a long happening on the pages, making you read them as much as the text. Diverse characters and a beloved bear will capture your imagination and heart.
All ages can read/be read too, but probably best for ages five and up. Fraser is also the author of The Littlest Yak another sweet, contemporary story, and Massine is the illustrator of several books tht I am going to look into as these images are fun to view.
