More Murder, Less Family Drama Please

The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins

April 19, 2026 by Pooja Leave a Comment

Decades after the heiress Ruby McTavish was kidnapped as a toddler and dubiously recovered a year later, her adopted son Camden and his wife Jules return to her ancestral home in a bid to claim her long-neglected inheritance. This book draws inspiration from several cases in the early 20th century in which a kidnapped or vanished child was thought to be returned, only for it to be later discovered that it was instead some unrelated child who for whatever reason was trying to be forced […]

The Storm by Rachel Hawkins

The Storm by Rachel Hawkins

October 6, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. I honestly am shocked at how much I loved this newest offering by Hawkins. I did not care for “The Heiress” and thought there was too much going on in that book to really enjoy it. “The Storm” though has the perfect plot (who killed a Presidential hopeful in the 80s, his teenage mistress or a storm?) and the characters we meet are really intriguing. I found myself […]

The corruption of the rich

The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins

December 27, 2024 by Sophia 1 Comment

I think I discovered The Heiress (2024) by Rachel Hawkins when I was browsing through my library app looking for available books. Surprisingly, I don’t think I saw it on any lists. But the first paragraph was written well, and the main characters were living in Golden, Colorado–a town close to my heart. So, I decided to read it. The Heiress is the story of a very rich family in Tavistock, North Carolina. They live in a beautiful house named the Ashby House, surrounded by the gorgeous views […]

I wanna live like common people

The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins

April 3, 2024 by Bea Pants Leave a Comment

This is the second book I’ve read by Rachel Hawkins. I loved her first book, The Villa, which centered around an Italian villa which was the site of a mysterious death in the seventies. This second book centers around heiress Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodwar Miller Kenmore. Ruby first became famous when she was just a toddler after being the victim of a famous kidnapping (think Lindbergh baby with a happier ending). She’s been married and widowed four times which only adds to her notoriety. When […]

Isolated South Sea island. What could go wrong?

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins

July 30, 2023 by elderberrywine Leave a Comment

cbr15bingo Relation”ship” Reckless?  Hmm.  Not the adjective I’d use.  Girls without a plan.  Girls who bounce from one dire situation to another without a whole lot of forethought.  Girls who rely on their good looks to temporarily find themselves in a cushy position, but never learn how to leverage it.  Girls who live in a sketchy rich bro world and don’t mind it at all.  Girls who eventually start dying left and right.  At least the bros do as well, so there’s that. This book […]

Reckless Girls

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins

March 8, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Honestly this was a 4.5 star read for me, and that’s just because one of the characters died in a stupid way that I went okay that seems ridiculous. But until that little hiccup, this was definitely a 5 star read. I just rounded up to 5 stars because everything else in the book, character development, writing, flow, setting, and the ending were fantastic. I also had to go back and re-read the prologue because you don’t find out until the end who that person […]
