Everybody and Every Body Outdoors: Disabled Hiker’s Guide to WA and Oregon

Disabled Hiker's Guide to Western Washington and Oregon: Outdoor Adventures Accessible by Car, Wheelchair, and on Foot by Syren Nagakyrie

February 5, 2023 by Flimflamingo 2 Comments

I don’t live in the Pacific Northwest. I have been heard regularly saying, “Oh that sounds nice but, correct me if I’m wrong, sounds like that’s an OUTSIDE thing” when someone’s brought up the outdoors and why I have to just have to go hiking someplace or to see some lake or even just go… there. However, for some reasons I won’t disclose (because work) and some others I will disclose in a sec I came across Syren Nagakyrie’s Instagram account @disabledhikers which led me to their website which led me […]

Take a hike

The Hike: (Nature Book for Kids, Outdoors-Themed Picture Book for Preschoolers and Kindergarteners) by Alison Farrell

June 7, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Hike: (Nature Book for Kids, Outdoors-Themed Picture Book for Preschoolers and Kindergarteners) probably is all you need to know about the book. Yet, to expand it is a fictional story of three friends (though there is an image that makes it seem as if they are siblings), who go on a hike to explore. And they find a little of this and a little of that and of little of something else. The hike results in the three of them finding the big and […]

A cat and three girls decided to have a couple graphic novels made for them…

Cat & Cat Volume 1 Girl Meets Cat by Christophe Cazenove

Cat & Cat Volume 2: Cat Out of Water by Christophe Cazenove

Super Sisters by Christophe Cazenove

October 12, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The team of Christophe Cazenove and William Maury have created the series Cat and Cat, the series Super Sisters, the (regular) series Sisters and the Sea Creatures series (which I have not found/read yet and has different illustrations). When reading Cat & Cat Volume 1 Girl Meets Cat and Cat & Cat Volume 2: Cat Out of Water, I did not realize Super Sisters was by the same people. And of course, the same happened with Super Sisters. I figured the similar feel to the […]

Further Down The River

Wicked River by Jenny Milchman

October 2, 2021 by Jake Leave a Comment

Read as part of CBR13Bingo: Outdoors. Almost the entirety of the book takes place outdoors.  The good thing about Book Bingos and other reading challenges is that they encourage you to read stuff you wouldn’t otherwise read. Take Wicked River. I won this book in a library bingo contest. I wouldn’t have read it otherwise…but I hate letting go of free books. It likely would have sat on my shelf for at least a year, maybe longer, had “Outdoors” not been an option in the Cannonball Read Bingo books. […]

One Summer Evening

Summer Evening by Walter de la Mare

June 12, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Summer Evening by Walter de la Mare has a “grab you cover.” While it needed more text these illustrations are gorgeous, but the lack of text does take away from things. Even if it just had text more sprinkled in then it has, would have made this book perfect. A family is out and about having an evening picnic. And when the children notice the cat chasing a mouse, they follow it pass the dog and the other animals of the farm. Mostly a wordless […]

Run Wild with this book!

Run Wild by David Covell.

June 11, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Another book for the “there is really nothing wrong with this book but it just did not speak to me” list is Run Wild by David Covell. It is a book that is for families that like the outdoors or for young children that should have a slightly shorter book to listen to. It is poetic and has unique illustrations that are not active, but are not “sit still and be quiet illustrations.” The text also lends itself to being a “first read alone” or […]
