This is the best celebrity memoir I’ve ever read. Now, I’m probably biased because I went into this already loving Craig Ferguson from watching him on The Late Late Show, but he did in his book everything that a book like this should do. He was funny, sincere, and his honesty is that of the ‘warts and all’ persuasion. In fact, showing those warts is the whole point of the book, which he opens by stating, concerning his son, “He will know from an early […]
Pusheen is my spirit animal.
If you’ve been on the internet at all, you’ve probably seen Pusheen in one form or another. She has a blog, a set of Facebook stickers, and a bunch of merch at online indie shops. If you’re already a fan, you will get most of your favorite comics in one book. And if you’re a newbie, hopefully you will be inspired to check out her tumblr. My darling BFF and I had a belated Christmas gift exchange. This is what she got me, minus the chocolate. I’ve already eaten that. I have one cat, and […]
Amy Poehler is my hero
“The only way we will survive is by being kind. The only way we can get by in this world is through the help we receive from others. No one can do it alone, no matter how great the machines are.” (329) There was never any doubt that I would read Yes Please (2014) by Amy Poehler; the only question was how long I’d have to wait for it to become available at the library. I’ve always enjoyed Poehler. I like her jokes, and I […]
The not-real tale of a musical-loving, book-reading, clever fat virgin who just wants to fit in
“My biggest secret of all—the one I would rather die than tell, the one I wouldn’t even put in my diary—is that I really, truly, in my heart, want to be beautiful. I want to be beautiful so much—because it will keep my safe, and keep me lucky, and it’s too exhausting not to be.” This is my first CBR year and my first attempt at a book review, so be kind, and only throw the softest and freshest of vegetables my way. Fortunately, I made […]
They keep throwing the same fish around
Last year I read the first book in the Magic 2.0 series, Off to be the Wizard and I loved it. It was clever, funny, snarky, full of nerdy, geeky jokes and references, and time travellers being confused by other time travellers. It was a lot of fun and even though I never got around to writing a CBR6 review for it, I remember recommending it to some people. With good memories of the previous book, I picked this one up and saved it for […]
