Permanent Detention (Piggy Original Graphic Novel) by Vannotes

I have seen this pig toy on Five Below’s website for ages now. I had no idea what it was, but assumed it was from some online/video game. It was this pink pig with a baseball bat and had the look of a zombie-like character. Recently, I saw this book cover with a similar character on it, and thought, “oh, that is the book I just saw advertised in a catalog. Maybe I will give it a shot.” While subconsciously realizing it was the toy, […]

How sweet friendship is

Pocket Peaches Volume 1 by Dora Wang

I was looking for quick reads one recent weekend, and I was not particularly picky, just as long as they were short and frankly, something that was not going to tax my brain too much. I found an online reader copy of the seriously sugary sweet book, (which is due late September 2023), Pocket Peaches Volume 1 by Dora Wang. The theme of being yourself is obvious and for the adult reader, predictable. It is good for kids who like fluffy bunnies and super cute animals and […]

Two beginner reads your your beginner reader

Mossy and Tweed: Double Trouble (I Like to Read Comics) by Mirka Hokkanen

The Lost Mitten (I Like to Read Comics)  by Jannie Ho

A while back I saved the online link to Mossy and Tweed: Double Trouble (I Like to Read Comics) by Mirka Hokkanen. Then I needed a quick read at lunch recently. I found my saved link and read a cute story about the “new unicorn in town” who is “better and flashier” and all that jazz. Of course, in the end the Old Wise Unicorn needs to save the day and the two Unicorns become friends. The adult reader will see that Old Wise Unicorn is not so […]

I challenge you to a duel

Duel by Jessixa Bagley

I read several graphic novels recently with diverse, modern casts. One of them, Duel by Jessixa Bagley, left me with two things. The first was I was not sure about a couple characters. I read Duel via a physical reader copy and the images were not complete (some were sketches, not fully fleshed out and color was not added). Though  I was enjoying Aaron Bagley’s expressive artwork when we were able to see a larger image. There are hair-raising moments, images of the fencing, the […]

Curlfriends V01: New in Town by Sharee Miller

I like reader copies. You get to find a good story about friendship, fitting in and being yourself before the final book comes out. And you can decide if the characters are relatable, and for what ages (such as ages 10 and up for Curlfriends V01: New in Town and yes, it is relatable), and see that the illustrations are clever, quirky and fun. You find out that Sharee Miller, while dealing with some serious themes (the fitting in, making friends when you think it is hard […]

Living up to your infamous family heritage

Shelley Frankenstein! V01 CowPiggy by Colleen Madden

by Leave a Comment

Do you want a book where your main character has a “loud personality” and is a big sister, and is a person who does not realize that people do not like to be scared (not even a little bit) most of the time (if not all the time)? Then you probably want to read the graphic novel, Shelley Frankenstein! V01 CowPiggy by Colleen Madden. There is a cute sister/brother relationship, and the historical aspect is amusing (yes, THOSE Frankenstein’s are the ancestors of Shelley and […]
