Lazy weekend reads

Leon the Extraordinary: A Graphic Novel (Leon Volume one) by Jamar Nicholas

Meems & Feefs: Ferrets from Planet Ferretonia! (Volume one) by Liza N. Cooper

The Prisoner of  Shiverstone by Linette Moor

I was having a lazy weekend. I needed reading material that would be fun for the kid me, and not overly taxing for the adult me.  And I found two and a half books that fit the bill. I say two and a half because the third one had a bit more meat on the overall story than the others, so there was a bit more thinking required on my part. However, kids will eat all of them up as they are good stories. The […]

Getting your fright on

Frights from Feral  V02 Last Exit to Feral by Mark Fearing

by Leave a Comment

This  time around, the style is vamped with the chapters having a postcard (mostly, of course, of the creepy variety or at least sinister seeming) starting things off. And this is not the only thing that is different with Frights from Feral  V02 Last Exit to Feral by Mark Fearing.   This time we follow Freya and her friend Monica (the person who runs into Frey’s office (the basement of an old house no longer standing) at the end of book one, as they learn an important clue to the […]

Lock your doors, turn up the lights, surround yourself with garlic, and never invite a stranger in!

Frights from Feral V01 Welcome to Feral by Mark Fearing

by Leave a Comment

Mark Fearing (if that is their real name and not their ghost writer name) must have been one strange child and now a stranger adult. A child that was haunted by the best of the best hauntings, ghosts and ghouls whom they made friends with and shared with us now. They introduce us to those friends in their series about the town of Feral. Freya is our detective of the odd things in this town called Feral. They know the truth (or so they think) […]

Besties skipping a beat

Skip!: A Graphic Novel by Sarah Burgess.

If strawberry lemonade was a book (or more accurately a graphic novel) it would be Skip!: A Graphic Novel by Sarah Burgess. Let me explain. First, I am thirsty and for some bizarre reason strawberry lemonade sounds really good so I used it as my metaphor. And second, it was something that was familiar and different, and it sounded like it would be both sweet and tart; sassy, with life, and with character!  Which is what Skip! is. The story is familiar (new best friends Jay and Beah start to have a serious case of the Friendship Blues […]

Boy in Space, Late for Dinner

Action Tank (Action Tank Volume 1) by Mike Barry

by Leave a Comment

Are you looking for an interesting look at a boy’s adventures as he tries to get to home as he is late for dinner? Then, Action Tank (Action Tank Volume 1) created by Mike Barry could be the read you are looking for. Or not. That is because I am not completely sure what I read and therefore, unable to say it is what you are looking for. We open the story onto barren panels and a boy laying there on the ground. Wearing what seems to […]

Never meet your heroes

My Buddy, Killer Croc by Sara Farizan

by Leave a Comment

The focus of having the character of Killer Croc (Waylon Jones) as the “hero” in the Sara Farizan and Nicoletta Baldari graphic novel, My Buddy, Killer Croc, is a familiar but good twist. However, the one thing I was wondering is if the reader will understand that Killer Croc, no matter how “good or nice” he seems, is not a “good guy” due to how he is mostly good to the main character (or seems to be on the surface). There is an interesting nod to […]
