Something is Killing the Children, vols. 1-7 by James Tynion IV, Werther Dell'Edera, Miquel Muerto

March 28, 2026 by vega-table Leave a Comment

Something is Killing the Children is an ongoing comic series by James Tynion IV, Werther Dell’Edera, and Miquel Muerto (I copied and pasted all those names). It starts with children disappearing in Small Town, USA – which is somewhere in Wisconsin. There we meet James. His friends’ bodies were found, but many were not. The principal (while encouraging James to punch the kids who say James is so gay that he killed his friends) said it’s probably a rabid bear. Or something. Spoiler (?): it’s […]

Burn It Down: Rigsby WI Volume 2 by S. E. Case

March 27, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A year ago (March 2025) Rigsby WI by S. E. Case came out and March 2026 Burn It Down: Rigsby WI Volume 2 came out.  Flux: Rigsby WI Volume 3 will be out in 2027 and I’m hoping that means volume four is in 2028. Of course, I want all the stories for each character now, as I’m not happy that I have to wait a year for book three, let alone until 2028! You see, I became invested in the four main teens/friends of […]

Insectopolis: A Natural History by Peter Kuper

March 27, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Insectopolis: A Natural History by Peter Kuper is a crazy, wild, odd, neat, and informative read. I have read books on insects (mostly picture books and graphic novels for children to teens), but I think this might be my favorite read yet. Kuper mixes fiction, fantasy, speculative and non-fiction as the impact of these creatures unfolds.  We start with a brother and sister off in New York City, going to an exhibit at “some library.” The sister is a scientist, her brother a “dude” but […]

Picking up up righ where it left off

The Ancient Magus Bride vols. 19-21 by Kore Yamazaki

March 27, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I’ve enjoyed the Ancient Magus Bride manga for the most part; then it suddenly paused mid-arc. Turns out that the author was changing publishers for reasons I don’t know, which resulted in over a year-long gap between volumes. But now it seems like publishing is happening again. Volumes 19-21 finish the arc that was underway before the break and start the set up for the next one. The family tragedy behind Philomela’s connection to the mysterious evil grimoire turns out to have to do with […]

“The trouble with believing things is that they have an annoying habit of turning out not to be true”

The October Girl: Book One by Matthew Dow Smith

March 27, 2026 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

I first heard of The October Girl at an event at my local indie bookstore. They were booktalking recent and soon-to-be published books and this was one of them. I enjoy reading a graphic novel from time to time and the plot seemed interesting too. Autumn Ackerman is about to graduate high school and isn’t sure what she wants to do with her life. With little money, she and her mom working hard, college doesn’t feel like an option. But things change when her imaginary […]

The Deep & Dark Blue by Niki Smith

Pet by Akwaeke Emezi

The Deep & Dark Blue This is a middle grade graphic novel with a lovely trans-affirming message. Hawke and Grayson are twin grandchildren of the head of a noble house. After a coup that kills the grandfather and the presumptive heir, the twins run to the Communion of Blue, a group of women spinners and weavers who help spin the world. They disguise themselves as girls—Hanna and Grayce—and take the role of initiates. While Hawke chafes under these new restrictions, Grayce begins to accept that […]

Maybe they’ll share it when they do a special edition box set after the third (?) book comes out.
