Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

October 31, 2019 by ardaigle Leave a Comment

This book is/was everywhere. EVERY. WHERE. It was recommended to me a number of times and was featured on Pajiba Archives in the article “What are the most talked about books of 2019 so far?” It was almost the case to choose being obstinate in the face of enthusiasm: I almost didn’t want to read it BECAUSE everyone was talking about it. However, I decided to dive it and I now understand the hype. It was, good; however, it just wasn’t my cup of tea, […]

Sing!

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Seriously I got nothing to say that probably has not been said by thousands of people before me who finished this fantastic book. Owens hit on something here that I think a lot of readers long for. A very developed character and plot with some mystery elements in it with a totally blindsided ending that I didn’t see coming. I loved this whole thing. I think we will be talking about “Where the Crawdads Sing” for decades. “Where the Crawdads Sing” follows a 6 year […]

Reviews are divided, but I land on the side of loving it.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I know that this is turning into a ‘love it or hate it’ type book (even amongst the Cannonball reviews), but I personally really enjoyed it. We are introduced to Kya, a girl living in the marshes of North Carolina in the 60s. Her dysfunctional family lives a secluded life away from town, subject to poverty and her father’s drunken abuse. One by one her mother and siblings flee, leaving Kya alone with her volatile father, until one day, he too disappears. Kya becomes known […]

Those crawdads gonna need to sing a little louder

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

…to drown out this terrible dialogue. But before we get to that, let’s start with the good. Warning: this post contains ALL the spoilers! The first half of this book is beautiful, moody, and gorgeously written. The marsh is described so lovingly, so well, and the family dynamics felt so authentic. Kya’s transition from little sister with a troubled family to nature child was described with a sort of reverence for Nature that I found compelling. Her relationship with Jumpin’ and Mabel was sweet, and […]
