Sweetest in the Gale by Olivia Dade

July 9, 2020 by Emmalita 1 Comment

Sweetest in the Gale is an anthology of novellas by Olivia Dade, all set in her fictional Marysburg. Each of the stories is lovely. The first and the third ripped my heart out for different reasons. In Teach Me, Dade introduced us to Candy Albright, an English teacher and Force to be Reckoned With. In “Sweetest in the Gale,” fellow Marysburg High English teacher, Griff has noticed Candy, but his grief for the death of his wife has disconnected him from other people. Since that first Marysburg […]

This is a re-read, and my original review for this book can be found here. As with the other Milans I’ve been revisiting, I wanted to listen to this in audio, but discovered, to my dismay that it wasn’t narrated by Polly Lee, who did the first two books in The Turner series, but Nicole Quinn, whose voice just did NOT work for me. Utterly forgettable. Read Courtney Milan’s Unraveled instead

Sophie Darling (sadly nowhere near as awesome as my favourite romance heroine with Darling as a surname) is on her way to a job interview in London and unexpectedly and happily finds herself upgraded to first class. Her joy is somewhat lessened when very handsome, but supremely grouchy Gabriel “Scottie” Scott is seated next to her, outraged that one of the two seats he’s purchased has been allotted to someone. Nonetheless, cheerful and mischievous Sophie decides to try to crack handsome guy’s crabby demeanour (at […]

“Although at the moment, I may be coming a bit unraveled.”

Okay, guys, so this is a big step for me. I have never reviewed a straight up “bodice-ripper” romance novel* on CBR before, and I’ve only done a couple small reviews of them over on Goodreads. In fact, I usually don’t even mark them as ‘read’ over there because it has been a life-long habit for me to conceal my romance-reading from everyone. But this lovely review from Mrs. Julien finally gave me the excuse I needed. *Better known as historical romance. A large part of […]

I will not add it to my TBR pile then. LOL. Already have way too many books.

I didn’t like it that much, although others here have loved it, so I may be an outlier.
