A cat and three girls decided to have a couple graphic novels made for them…

Cat & Cat Volume 1 Girl Meets Cat by Christophe Cazenove

Cat & Cat Volume 2: Cat Out of Water by Christophe Cazenove

Super Sisters by Christophe Cazenove

October 12, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The team of Christophe Cazenove and William Maury have created the series Cat and Cat, the series Super Sisters, the (regular) series Sisters and the Sea Creatures series (which I have not found/read yet and has different illustrations). When reading Cat & Cat Volume 1 Girl Meets Cat and Cat & Cat Volume 2: Cat Out of Water, I did not realize Super Sisters was by the same people. And of course, the same happened with Super Sisters. I figured the similar feel to the […]

I borrowed the cat for the photo

Championess by Tarun Shanker

September 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have wanted to read Championess by Tarun Shanker for a bit now, but things kept getting in the way from actually reading. But about a week ago (as of September 15, 2021) I found a copy. Shanker’s book was an amazing piece of history, a great story of sisters, and even had a little romance. Based on Elizabeth Wilkinson, a bare-knuckled boxer, I was excited to learn of the down and dirty, nasty, corrupt, ugly world of boxing in the 1700’s. The story of […]

“When you’re twins, the magic just never ends” (Little Richard, Philip Bailey)

Twins: A Graphic Novel by Varian Johnson

May 28, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Twins: A Graphic Novel has two main elements that make it both familiar and new. Varian Johnson does the “twin thing” (two sisters who are best friends, know each other in ways even their parents cannot know, and are each other’s “partner in crime/fear/whatever is needed), but then makes a new twist with having a modern touch with a blended family of color. The story is simple: Two sisters; almost identical (one is slightly taller; this one has a scar) and best friends. That is […]

Modern Jo with a classic feel

Jo: A Graphic Novel by Kathleen Gros

January 19, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Jo: A Graphic Novel by Kathleen Gros was not exactly what I thought it was going to be, but at the same time, it was exactly what I thought it would be. It is a modern reimagining of the classic, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. We have the March sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. And of course, their mother, Marmee and neighbor Laurie. The book is told from the first-person perspective of Jo. This is through her events and through her blog. Of […]

It Was Kind of Different So She Never Read it Again

The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal

January 4, 2021 by Jenny S 4 Comments

Though I am not from Minnesota, I have spent some quality time living there—in college and then afterwards so reading this was both fun and a little nostalgic.  The small details, both comical and kind, are what really make these characters come alive.  Also, I was already missing spending quality time inside my town’s two local nano-breweries and this made me miss them even more (even as I drink their beverages at home). This novel tells the story of two sisters, Edith and Helen, whose […]

Dysfunction Junction

Sisters: A Novel by Daisy Johnson

November 1, 2020 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

If you enjoy a novel with a questionable/unreliable narrator, then Sisters is for you. Clocking in at just over 200 pages, it is the kind of book you could get through in a day, and the plot is such that the reader will want to find out exactly what has happened and why. This makes it a little tricky to review without spoilers, but here we go. Teenagers July and September are sisters, with only 10-months difference in their ages. September is definitely the dominant […]
