When you read just one more and it turns into four

Hello Animals: A Board Book Gift Collection by Loes Botman

August 31, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I sometimes think that I read too much. And then I decide I will take a break from reading, but before I do, I will read one more little thing. And I have said before, I am trying to clean up my online reader links (not that I am ever going to come close) and landed on one that is a four board book collection by Loes Botman. They are part of a series called Hello Animals. They are cute, simple, but as it was online I […]

I read some books. Here’s their reviews. Hope you like.

This is My Treehouse by Guillaume Gueraud

Sleepy Happy Capy Cuddles by Mike Allegra

Noura’s Crescent Moon by Zaina Khan

The Ever-Changing Earth by Grahame Baker-Smith

August 30, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am switching between my old links and new links of online reader copies. In my new links I have This is My Treehouse. It is a quiet, but busy, story about a child and the treehouse that is magical and can take them any place they want to go. It is a rocket and a pirate ship. It might be leaky and not that big, but it is what is needed. Guillaume Gueraud’s story is nice, but it was the illustrations of Alfred that […]

Reading out of order

Mystery at the Aquarium (Volume 1) (OceanX Adventures) by Kate B. Jerome

Animal Rescue Friends: Friends Fur-Ever: Volume 2 by Gina Loveless

Animal Rescue Friends (Volume 1) by Jana Tropper

August 21, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Sometimes if you read a series out of order, you are fine, others you get lost. Thankfully these three titles, when read out of order, were not too difficult to follow for me as an adult. And in fact, even kid readers wouldn’t be too put off by out of order reading.  However, I do recommend reading in the order the author meant for you to read them. Yet, had I read Mystery at the Aquarium (Volume 1) (OceanX Adventures) by Kate B. Jerome before […]

I won’t bite, unless you ask really nice, but these insects might!

Please Don't Bite Me! : Insects that Buzz, Bite and Sting by Nazzy Pakpour

August 16, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Please Don’t Bite Me! : Insects that Buzz, Bite and Sting is actually more of a 3.5  than four rating as there are a few illustrations that were somewhat abstract. The first one was the mosquito being shown biting  a victim. The body, head, and everything else did not look real, therefore, it all blended together. The text, on the other hand, is good. Straight forward, covering a few pages for each insect and covers several pieces of the puzzle of that particular insect. And […]

Team seal or team penguin?

Seals are Jerks! by Jared Chapman

August 10, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Seals are Lorelei’s favorite animals. And she loves how they must be the best of friends with penguins. After all, they are always together in all the pictures she sees because of the research she has done. And they are no-shaped, but look like potatoes and their blubber! But when a new student in class tells her that Seals are Jerks! Well, she doesn’t believe it! She needs proof! But she soon learns that seals are jerks. After all, they eat penguins and do not […]

Maple’s Theory of Fun by Kate McMillan

August 9, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I was looking at an online review site that I can easily use, and I saw this brightly done  cartoon cover.  It was as if Lizzy McGuire and Diary of a Wimpy Kid had a book. It was Maple’s Theory of Fun. At first, I thought it was going to be about a girl trying to show us how to have fun. A “how to” so to speak, but then all crap breaks loose. Well, it is about how to do that, but the girl […]

I really enjoyed this one. I was particularly amused at Lady Catherine deBoutgh’s disgust at her assassin’s incompetence.
