Ghost Station by S. A. Barnes
I was going to say this was a first for me in terms of genre: space horror. But now that I think about it, I was introduced to space horror in the 90’s when I went in cold to see Event Horizon and walked out of the theater in horrified silence. THAT shit was space horror. But we’ll take it down a notch and talk about Ghost Station, which is set on an alien planet with a long lost civilization. We follow a team of […]
Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes
One of my top horrors is space. Another one is under the sea (like deep under the sea). I also don’t like to fly, and caves freak me out. I never thought I was a control freak until I realized that the thing that scares me the most about these things is that I’m not in control. I can’t “get out” of whatever I’m in (space ship, submarine, airplane, etc) when I want to. As far as space, under the ocean, and caves, I have […]
Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
Spooky season is almost upon us and my house is getting into the mood quickly! Sure it’s the middle of August, 102 F in the shade, and Lake Mead is drier than a Mormon wedding, but it’s time for ghouls and ghosts dammit! A few choice decorations have been added to the collection by my like-minded wife, and we are ready to go into the season in style. This brings me to Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes. First off, I love the cover and would […]

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
I’ve just returned from our family vacation – where me, my husband and daughter caught Covid (there’s not many great times to catch Covid, but catching it while staying with your extended family in a vacation rental is definitely a supremely shitty time to catch Covid). My brain still feels a bit foggy, but as I return I’m excited to read all the posts about CBR Bingo. I am going to post my reviews from vacation reads (all completed after July 15) and claim their […]
Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
Holy crap was this creepy. Just like the last book I reviewed, I recommend listening to the audiobook. The sense of dread is overwhelming, and I’m not sure you’d be able to create it that much for yourself by just reading. Claire is the team leader of a salvage crew in space. They’re on their last mission and about to be moved on to different jobs. Claire doesn’t want to leave, because she has nothing to go home for. In the first few minutes you’re […]
Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
Read this book. Just do it. Whether it’s kindle or paper or audio, I don’t care. Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes is fan-freaking-tastic, a true escape from whatever is going on in your world. I feel like I should be up front about this: S.A. Barnes is a Facebook friend of mine, and has been for many years. For that matter, she’s been a friend to Cannonball Read. She’s been so kind as to contribute signed copies of her books* to CBR in the past […]
